Ditto, although I'm only 10 Stars in myself!

If I had to nit-pick a little, I would argue that the Camerawork in Galaxy doesn't quite match up to that of SM64, but that's being very picky.

      Aye.

If things continue as they have (60 stars in) this is my GOTY too.

      But what a great year!!

I took my time with this but have finally completed Mario Galaxy. Well OK so I only have 61 stars - lots to go back for!

This easily has to be the best game on the Wii, if not the best game of this gen. I much prefer it to Mario 64 too, the levels have a lot more variety and it all feels a lot more intuitive to me.

Some of the 2D retro style levels are amazing. Nintendo really pulled out all the stops here.

Anyway I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said 100 times before. Top banana - perhaps one of the few games over the past few years that has managed to live up to my expectations!

Got this at christmas started playing it proper over the last few days, rinsed the first galaxy and tbh finding it a bit of a chore.
I much prefer 2D mario myself and even then there nothing special in my book.

GOTY ? Not by a mile in my opinion. Plays allot like Zelda TP but with much better looks and that was a chore aswell.

Still at least I turned on my Wii to play it :P

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a chore, but I'm finding a lot of it familiar. eg: hitting/stomping Bosses 3 times to kill them etc. The "normal" bits are still good fun, but not half as good as the bits with the weird camera perspectives and puzzles etc. Those bits are awesome.

So uh... I'm at 96 stars now. Only time I've left the house today is to buy batteries since the Wiimote was telling me it was going to die

This is easily, and I mean easily the best game on the Wii so far, simply because it is a stunning game that has managed to beter the best platformer of all time, Super Mario 64. It is also a game that fully uses the new capabilities of the wii from several perspective's, not just motion control. The motion control aspect of te game is perfect and thank god they kept it to the function's that are there. A little shake, a throw to throw fireballs etc..

Putting too much emphasis on motion control would have ruined the game, the game is a platformer and therefore relies on old school precision gaming, particularly in the latter stages with the purple coin challenges and secret stars. Too much motion would have lost what makes the game so great. To me it's a hardcore platforming game, and although the first sixty stars are pretty easy, try getting all 120 and then doing it again with Luigi, which is a tougher challenge with his slippy running, and longer/higher/flotier jumping, especialy on the more difficult platforming sections of the game. The moving platform purple coin challenge springs to mind directly!!!

It also use's the Wii's extra horsepower for much better graphics than the Gamecube could achieve, particularly when you view it on something like a Super Fine Pitch Sony HD CRT set, it truly is astounding when compared to Gamecube game's on a Tv like this through component.

It uses the extra processing power and ram for a better frame rate as well as some jaw dropping lighting effects, as well as the physics engine of the actual game, which couldn't be done on the Cube especially at 60FPS, true widescreen, motion control, and all those tasty graphical effect's that come as a direct result from the extra ram affoarded to Nintendo's finest coders.

Now this may not be leaps and bounds to the Hd generation, and I love Hd gaming on the 360 and PC, but from a perspective of comparing this top tier Wii title to the best the Gamecube had to offer, this to me is astounding, considering the restraint's the developer has with the system overall. It just goes to show, if you program specifically for the sytem from the ground up, with an engine built for the Wii, and Wii alone, with the overclocked CPU, and increase in main system memory, then the result's are there for all to see, and third party developer's should be ashamed of themselves for rehashing cube development onto the system with no regard for the limited but there extra capabilities of the machine.

Factor 5 has been saying this from the start, that they could easily beat their gamecube output technically on the machine, but internet Wii basher's have been quick to just say the machine is a gamecube with all the extra power going to the motion control, and OS interface, which is just nonsense.

Super Mario galxy is proof that the machine can have a game that can truly be called next gen, whatever that means!?~'!

I don't want to rant, but to me this is the most progressive product I have seen released on any so called next gen platform and that includes my beloved PC, which is just dying for new idea's with the power at it's disposal now, and that doesn't just mean improving graphic's to Direct X 10.1, and releasing graphics card's that can play the game at acceptable frame rate's.

Why not just concentrate on making game's that make use of Quad/dual core, and the powerful 8800 series card's. Pc game maker's are killing their own industry with their attempt's to release game's which no released GPU can run at the high spec. That's a different discussion altogether though, sorry to go OT.

I mean here on the wekest of all the machine's is a game which truly advances the genre in which it slot's into, and really turn's platforming upside down, quite literally!!

I mean the wealth of new ideas in this game, with the gravity and galaxy design is truly revolutionary, and Nintendo has produced something that simply has never been done before. It's not just same old, with photorealism.

I'm simply salivating at the prospect of what Ninteno's EAd studion in Japan can come up with next, as they seem to truly understand the wii need's the core gaming market, as well as opening up other avenue's of revenue which Nintendo is now the grand master at anyway!!(WII FIT cough, cough).

Please people, play this game, it's the game of this decade if your a platforming fan!! It also make's up for the elementary design mistake's made in Sunshine( and I am an admirer of Sunshine, but can see it's flaw's.). It return's Mario to a world which seem's familiar and new at the same time, as well as being eye poppingly beautiful. Koopa's, Goomba's, Magikoopa's, Bowser, Baby Bowser, Peach, Rosetta, Toad, the starmen(that's what I call em!!) Big Booo, Boo's, return of mario suits etc. etc.. etc.. This is just the tip of the iceberg and I don't want to spoil, for anyone mad ermmm new who has not bought it yet, all the new faces you'll meet in this amazing game!!!

Sorry Mofoman, but Galaxy hasn't bettered the freedom of SM64's Camera.

                      No way.

Confession time: I never played Mario 64 all the way through. What I played seemed fun, but in no way did it grab me (either at the time, or when I tried again more recently) as much as Mario Galaxy did.

Finished it off today, and whilst I would say at some points it felt a bit samey, I put that down to being a slob and sitting infront of the console and doing 80% of the game in one weekend. Whilst I would say it is truly something to savour rather than binge out on, for me to even be able to do that these days is saying something. Between this and No More Heroes I've already got pretty good value for money out of my Wii.
