Just got in from work and ripped this open - after a 10 min play I thought it might be an idea to quickly bash them out here incase others are thinking of picking this up.
I'll admit it right now. The only reason I really wanted this was due to the Zelda game that comes with the Wii Zapper.
Hell - first time i've taken the Mario Galaxy disc out of my Wii in a few days though - I'd even forgotten what the Galaxy print looks like on the disc.
Impressed with how the Zapper all goes together - slide the wiimote into the secure cradle on the top - plop your nunchuck on the back end then theres a small slidey off chamber where with 2 hooks letting you couple the Nunchuck cable tidily away which then lets you link to the back of the Wiimote and you're good to go - nice matte effect on the zapper and doesn't look too tacky like a friends cheap HK knock off.
Down to the game which gives you three modes. Score Attack , Multiplayer , Practice. I jumped into a practice to begin with which breaks the levels down similar to Mario levels ( 1-1 , 1-2 , 1-3 ) and so on.
First game was simply taking out targets as they popped up like the old fairground games and similar to a few point blank minigames ( the targets actually remind me of point blank a lot in this
) You have a wee cursor which follows the wiimote wherever you point sort of thing - in the first game it was incredibly sensitive so I jumped into the options and toned it down to the lowest setting which made it a lot nicer - i must admit though, the cursor looks a bit 'shakey ' unlike how stable and fluid the little star is you use to pickup starbits in Galaxy.
Jumping into the score attack mode gives you 1-10 levels from the outset I think it was. Selecting level 1 gives you a preview of the 3 sublevels it's broken into ( you're scored on each ) and a total score for the entire set which will award a medal ranging from Bronze to Platinum which is dependant on the final score.
The settings are pretty awesome as they're all scenarios from Twilight Princess which is nice - aswell as the targets that pop up on the opening levels there are extra items to shoot similar to HOTD and Mad Dog Mcree ( remember the skulls for extra points anyone? ) Shooting up the barrels and jars etc give the correct Zelda sound effects also which are a pleasure - sometimes after shooting up say a bunch of barrels or a patch of pumpkins ( in the brief moments before the targets pop up ) you find a bonus coin may appear which you shoot for extra points or a fairy might fly out anf give you some points also. You can zoom with the Z button on the nunchuck for far away shots and to pick off any far away items you might think will give a bonus. If you gain consecutive shots you actually get multiplier bonus' which adds a nice skill element and less of a ' hammer the trigger ' affair.
Along with the target level I had a bash at 1-2 which was basically me in the desert with a radar and enemies spawning then walking towards me - you have to be pretty quick with the trigger here when it gets packed in with enemies but again if you do also get bonuses here.
Another similar level which was very cool was one of the desert sections from TP which actually allowed me to walk about in an over the shoulder mode using the analogue stick whilst using the wiimote to look about with the main goal of clearing a level of 20 enemies in X seconds.
Might be interesting to see what other scores people are getting - bit of competition is always good.
So far - pretty impressive shooting reminding me a lot of point blank but less zany areas. Nostalgic for the Zelda fans out there and on the plus side - incredibly cheap to pick up
