    Time Crisis 4

I love the Time Crisis games, i must have spunked around 200quid into the arcade machines over the years so it was a no brainer for me picking this up.

After a spending 10 minutes updating my PS3 with the 1.94 update on the disc, i spent another 10 minutes setting up the LED's on the top of my TV (which are a total eye sore by the way) and then i spent another 10 minutes of my life caliberating my gun 50 times before i was up and running.

First Impressions, cheap, nasty and a bit wank really!!

The game is alright but the guncon 3 is a total PHAIL! It's very lightweight and feels as cheap as it looks, it also has no rumble or feedback which does nothing to help things. Also the thing is wired up, why cant i have a wireless gun or if you have to wire the f*cker at least give it some kick!! Also there is a million buttons all over the thing, most of them doing bugger all too, anyone found a use for the C1, C2, A1 and A2 buttons yet? If you have then please do let me know!

Apart from the abomination of a lightgun, the game is still time crisis 4. Plays the same, only played arcade mode (decent enough) and a few mini games so far which are all rubbish. Ingame action is a but jaggy on my 1080P sammy but i can live with it.

Remind me again why i dont play games on my ps3?

I disagree, enjoying it quite a bit. The formula is just as fun as ever. It takes a good 20 mins or so to sort out the calibration for the gun, but once its done its a blast.

Namco hit the spot for me, admittedly i've not tried FPS mode yet - but the game is as decent as ever.

Random info the game only runs in 480p or 720p.

So does the lightgun for this basically work in the same way as the IR functionality of the Wii remote and sensor bar, using calibration to get line of sight?

well it asks you to do either a 2-point calibration or a 5 point one (which is better). Once you've done that its the same as the old TC's point and shoot!

Hmm... was flirting with the idea of this (only mildly), think I'll stick with the cheaper (and better) Ghost Squad.

Is anyone else having problems running this?

I have a Japanese PS3 and just imported the US version of the game. But I'm getting no audio in the game at all and if I try and exit to the XMB with the PS button it resets the console. Attached via HDMI and the sound is fine in the XMB up to the point where I run the game.

Oddly, when I put the game in, it doesn't jump to the game icon. Also, there is no icon until I highlight it - its that generic blue disc like you get with movies. Highlighting the game icon brings up the background graphic, but no audio there either.

Really annoying. Graphics look great and the gun seems responsive, but I need my sound to work.

I'm getting a bit concerned about this. Are devs not bothering to follow guidelines properly, with the result that importing will become a lottery? Is this just the game looking for (non-existant) Japanese audio? I'm signed in with a US PSN account, but that doesn't seem to affect anything

BTW, one nice feature which I tried and did work, is that you can use the sixaxis for the duck/reload pedal thing. Much better IMO to have that separately to the gun and closer to how it worked in the arcade. Not sure yet if I'll go the whole hog and put the sixaxis on the floor and hit it with my foot like I did on time crisis 1

thats assuming I get this working :/

dont know anbout the sound issue but apparently any button on a second controller can activate the reload so you can use the pedal from Rock Band..pretty nifty

edit - actually I wonder if it is a similar problem to NBA when it launched on PS3, soemthing to do with having the PS3 audio set to PCM and the game didn;t like it (or something like that), what is your audio set to?

I'm only connected via HDMI to my receiver.

I tried deselecting all the fancy PCM settings just leaving DD5.1, but it won't let me deselect 2ch PCM. Still didn't work.

might try and dig out an optical cable, but it'll be very annoying if I need optical cable just for this game.

tried switching to 'bitstream' in the BD/DVD options, but no use.

Might try an optical cable as a last resort (or stereo outs from the multiout - can you have those at the same time as HDMI for video?)

but its looking like I'll have to try and return it, and get the Japanese/Asian version, which is a pain as its difficult to find a source that'll ship to the UK

BD/DVD only affects BD's and DVD's. Have you tried resetting the main system sound settings? I see no reason why a NTSC/J disc would be any different to a U/C one however.
                      Kept you waiting, huh?

how? all I can see is the audio settings menu item, which I've gone in and reduced the hdmi options to the bare minimum (DD5.1, PCM 2ch)

You can do it in Display settings too. After you set it up, you'll be given the option to set up the audio. It may not be the solution, but it's all I can think of.

FPS is built into the 'game that isn't the arcade mode' (sorry, game isn't in front of me so don't remember what its called). not arcade, not minigames, the other one

rang my import store down in bournemouth and they are runnign it on Japanese PS3s no problem. They are kindly sending me out a replacment disc to see if that works. Fingers crossed
