Sensible World of Soccer (SWOS) 360 xbla

Some impressions to get the mitre ball rolling...

The game remains very faithful to the original Amiga/PC game in terms of gameplay and in fact everything else, due to being able to flip the default enhanced graphics and sound to 16bit old school. Personally, I'm sticking with the new look. The only thing that's really different is the new batch of custom teams. The sprites have been redrawn and whilst they're still diddy, you can make out their faces (just ). The pitches seem a bit better and over time, provided there have been sliding tackles, the pitch will get a bit muddy. There's also some simple but nice weather effects. Snowed in my first game, which made me get all Christmas-y and got a sack full of goal scored against me.

One new enhanced graphical effect I'm not too sure about is the ripple effect when a goal is scored. I think I'd just prefer to see the ball bobbling in the net.

The game is tricky. In my first match I won 2-0. Since then I have lost every match except for a long stretch of 0-0 draws against my mate in local multiplayer. Top laugh though.

Haven't had a chance to test the online yet as my girlfriend is currently hogging the TV the 360 is connected and watching Angel DVDs (big nerd ).

For those who haven't played it in the past, one of the big fun factors of the game is the aftertouch. You can create long, high and curvy lobbing balls up field by holding the kick button (this game only has one button for all) and then quickly pulling away from the way your player is facing. Pulling away diagonally will result in some mad bend being applied. Goals can be scored like this. You can also push forward after kicking for a driving shot.

The best thing to do is practice. try and work out where on the pitch is best to do certain shots etc.

The game works surprisingly well using the 360's left stick too. Didn't take me long at all to get used to it.

Bottom line, you'll have a laugh with all its spooniness. Best to play with other humans. If Live! works well, then it's defo a worthy purchase.

Will post back when I've give that a go.

I'm genuinely surprised by how well the game feels while using the stick. I really didn't expect the controls to be so precise, but it plays exactly as I remember it on my good old Kempston. So its quite easy to put aftertouch on the ball and also do the long balls that Hoolak mentioned.

I've only played one online game and it was truly awful with lag which would put PES to shame.

The manic pace is a bit of a shock at first but you soon get used to it and the whole thing really is just as I remember it on the Amiga. I don't like the ripple effect, its a bit off-putting really. I also don't remember the keepers being this good, but it could just be that I've got a really bad memory.

Its very addictive though and I'm looking forward to starting a season tomorrow. Shame we won't get proper team and player names though.

I've played three games and the lag's not been too bad so far, one brief moment but other than that it's ok.

Yeah, from what I've been reading. Some people are getting lag and some not.

What the hell is going on with Live and all the lag in games

I hear bad things about lag, in simple games, more than the big complex titles. It's really strange.

I'll be buying this, but there shouldn't be any lag these days, most people have 1meg internet minimum.

It would appear to be poor coding or bugs rather than a problem with Live. I've played over a day online of CoD4 with only a few games affected by lag for example.

Sensi was pretty unplayable though tonight, so I'll try it again tomorrow.

Some people are reporting that player matches have lagged, however the majority of ranked matches have been fine.

Still not had a chance to try yet.

I think MS should spend more time helping devs with the online side of things, because it's really stupid that simple games don't run perfectly through Live.

There seems to always be Live games that have lag issues. I think it's about time that MS sorted things out, and tried to identify the reasons, and stop it from happening in the future.

Look at PES, and all the problems the series continues to have with lag over the years. It's ridiculous.

If some devs have problems, someone needs to help them, before they release their titles.

The game was always hard, keepers were always good too, the single player game use to drive me insane but always came back for more.

Its good but I wish like with the Mega Drive and Mega CD version they was a seprate button used for short long passes , made the game so much better .

This will always be the best version of Sensible Soccer

I've played a couple of online ranked matches now (actually won the second one, but threw away the first with comical mistakes around my own area!) and haven't had any lag problems yet. Not tried a player match though.

Playing Sensi onthe 6 button Mega Drive pad is a pure joy, and to me the Mega CD version is the best version of the game due to that and the sound .
I know there's like a half sec delay , but the real crowd chants make a world of diff
