Hmm. I've played Disgaea but don't recall the trailers. Maybe I never got to the 2nd part... quite possible as I didn't really like the game.

I have similar problems to yourself with Radiant Dawn. My major issue is that it forces you to rely on the high-powered guest characters... which obviously makes it harder to smoothly level up the regular ones.

Presumably this still has the permanent character death of previous Fire Emblem games? I usually end up giving up on them because of that as I'll do a mission but lose a character, then not want to continue.

That's the complete opposite to me - in PoR if I lost a character, even if the mission was completed, it was a huge spur to redoing it to find a way to have them survive. I'd never thought a turn based strategy game could make me think about tactics so much and give me that sort of adrenaline buzz. To finish a mission with all characters surviving is just so satisfying.

I soooooo want a Wii just for Radiant Dawn.

Me too, I completed all FEs with all the characters - I can't stand that even useless ones die, for whatever reason.
BTW, yes, it's still the old FE system, so when someone dies, he/she is lost forever.

It just seems like an odd mechanic to me. It's effectively punishing you for making a mistake by making the game harder, which seems kind of backwards.

Actually, it's the combination of critical hits and permanent death that always gets to me, I think. If there was no randomness, I wouldn't mind as it'd always be your fault when you lost a unit. As it is, the AI can randomly get a series of critical hits and there's not much you can do other than restart the map.

It's possible I'm just rubbish, though.

The main problem with every FE is that it uses the same system used on the first NES game, and if you browse the net a bit you'll also discover that the "random" system is not that random and can be manipulated to obtain the best level ups, avoid enemy criticals or always land critical hits.
The inclusion of a full save feature is a welcome addition for those long battles were you favourite character always dies at the end, but with so many turn-based games out there the worst thing of FE is that it never evolved, Intelligent Systems struck to the old formula with minimum changes - I like the game, but I still think that Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance are weaker compared to the two GBA games.

Been playing this for 3 hrs now. My first Fire Emblem game and I enjoying it massively. Been playing on easy, and reloading if someone dies mid-battle. Last turn based game in this vein I played was Vandal Hearts, and this doesn't seem that different...joy!
