It's one of those few games I can get back to any time (except PAL version, obviously). I think it's even better than DMC3.

DMC1 may not have the deepest compat system ever but the bosses (now this is how you recycle them), structure, enemies, difficulty, music and length are way ahead of anything else in the series.

    Pure joy to play.
    Far enough man

I've got the US version and it's never clicked with me. I find it really frustrating. I get my ass handed to me off the screen by unannounced attacks. It's MUCH worse than DMC4 for that kinda unfairness.

I was just playing it earlier today....do not get along.

That why I kinda think of DMC4 as the REAL DMC2. It's half way between the two games.

    I find DMC1 infuriating. I've only briefly played DMC2.....

....DMC3 (JAP) was the first REAL entry for me. and I absolutely adore the game.

top 5 all time games like

Agreed. That' why it's still a classic. DMC1 was pure old school goodness. Design wise, I think DMC1 wins DMC3. But combat mechanics wise, DMC3 takes home gold prize.

Nevertheless, I'll pay for a remake of DMC1 easily.

Im not rushing the game myself. I keep ending up replaying alot of the earlier levels, trying to get that sss combo, the highest ive had is a double. I can only get that when theres at least 4 enemies, im sure it will be easy when its on the higher difficulty. Ive almost learned all the skills with nero though, i only have a few left but they will take me awhile to get.

Using exceed lvl 3, max act and DT at the right moments can help you achieve SSS rank very easily.

To be honest, I'm still trying to find a room where the enemies will respawn upon every visit. But I've found that Capcom will reduce the number of enemies by 1 each time you re-vist, until there are none left.

Never thought about using devil trigger, would have thought that enemies would die to quickly to achieve it on devil hunter anyway. I do vary what i do anyway, i like mixing in charge when enemies on the floor, so it lifts them in the air.

Using DT normally would be an overkill yes, but using DT as part of the combo is abit different. Not to mention when Nero goes in DT mode, he is invincible during the initial burst, the spirit will actually perform an uppercut when it's first released! (It'll also damage surrounding enemies or knock back any unwelcome off screen attacks, very handy if you're overwhelmed.) Then you charge in with an exceed mode and watch the style meter go up! This works even better if you managed to hit a few enemies at the same time with a lvl3 f+triangle, it's almost an instant SSS rank.

You can always 'cheat' by cancelling the DT when you use a DT buster. The DT buster animation will remain and style rank will go up (as well as damage) but lo and behold, you've kept your DT meter in a healthy state . It's especially useful vs bosses.

The port in 2nd mission (open area just before the bridge) can be revisited until that area runs out of enemies for you. There's always more than 4 and you can easily SSS rank up there

I've been playing this constantly since the JPN release and as a big fan of the DMC series, I like this game a lot. Like I said in the beginning, this isn't DMC3, but it's still a DMC game. Like many others, I was really surprised at some of the design decisions Capcom came up with, but after investing a lot of playtime, I've learnt to accept it as a different game to DMC3. For me, this game is all about Nero, (DMC3 is Dantes game) and Bloody Palace!

Excellent thanks for the tip. Will definetly use this to my advantage.

Venom, wanna share strats in bloody palace? I find blitz to be the biggest time draining enemy atm when using Nero. I know how to get rid of that stupid lighting shield easily as Dante but Nero seems to be abit hard done by the shield. It gets very tricky vs blitz past level 20 and above as he comes with his buddies...which can get annoying

I'm up to lvl 8 with Nero now on Devil Hunter mode - just relaxing with it, taking my time to learn the game, and replaying the early levels for orbs. Gotta be honest, I really do like it. It's not as good as DMC3 and tbh I never thought it would be either. But Nero is a good character to play with, and is a fine alternative to Dante. I like pretty much everything about the game though

I just unlocked the 1,000,000 red orb achievement.

                        I haven't played past level 8 yet.

Its probably because i keep devil triggering those giant red crystals, i get around 5000 orbs because of that.

I've played DMC1 since the US release. It was and still is pure awesomeness, i'd say the leveldesign and feel of progress is still the best in the series. Sure, the camera was bad at times (Griffon 2 SUCKED) and there are certain things that were fixed in DMC3, but DMC1 is still fun imo. The atmosphere was perfect. Although I must say that I prefer the final boss of DMC4 over the one in DMC1 (I never liked that semi shoot em up fight against Mundus).

A DMC remake would be a really good idea. Basically, if they could alter the game so that the DMC3 (or even 4) gameplay works well on those awesome locations it might very well be the best in the series.

Depends where you are in the game, if you have the item that activates them. Just smack it with the devil bringer without locking on. It will turn on then. If you don't have an item, just forget about them for now and go further on, as you will be able to activate them in the next mission.
