Pinball Hall Of Fame: The Williams Collection.

Thought I'd start a first play thread for this game. (This is my first one ever. Sorry if it blows).

I recived the american PS2 version a few days ago. A Wii version is also avaliable.

The collection of 8 (10 on Wii) Williams tables on offer includes: Black Knight; Firepower; Funhouse; Gorgar; Pinbot; Space Shuttle; Taxi; Whirlwind.

So far I have played Whirlwind and Funhouse. Both are superb tables with spot on flipper control and the best ball physics this side of the PC's 'Timeshock'.

Funhouse is especially good. It has a clown's head attached to the table! This clown is always spouting comments, friendly or otherwise at you.

The ball can be shot into his mouth to score bonus points and activate multiball. The sound effects as he spits them out are superb. The game uses all of the original machines sond effects and music.

Each table comes with an animated and voiced explanation of it's scoring system and features. The one for Funhouse is 80+ pages!

There is an up to 4-player tounament mode, challenge mode and a mode which lets you play the machines as you wish with 1-4 players.

Some of the tables are free play, but others require the use of credits to play. Credits are earned by unlocking specific table 'achivements' of which there are 5 on each table.. Tokens can also be earned by 'number matching' at the end of a game.

Tokens can also be spent on a frreeplay option on the tables that need credits.

Control of the flippers is via the L1 and R1 buttons. Right analogue stick controls the ball release. And the left analogue stick controls tilt.
Magnasave (on some tables) is controled via L2. Square and circle control camera options. Triangle removes / puts on the scoreboard hud.

To sum up: Being a pinball fan I'm loving this. It's up there with Pro Pinball: Timeshock (PC). And is far better than the Gottlieb Collection. which, incidently, was made by the same development team.

I loved the Gottlieb Collection on PSP and have been waiting for this one. Haven't ordered it yet though and it doesn't look like it will be out here any time soon. I imagine the PSP version will just have the 8 tables of the PS2 version.

In the Gottlieb Collection, there were a few great tables but many were more (to me) novelties just based on their age, of interest to pinball connisseurs maybe. How do the tables and variety compare in this one?

Where do I buy the PSP version of this?! Gamefaqs tells me it should have been released in the EU in Feb. Their messageboards tells me it's exclusive to certain shops in the US. Did it get released here anywhere?

How do companies expect to sell games if they don't actually make them available I wonder?

Its got put back to May again in Pal land.

I dont understand why they have released a load of older tables though. Funhouse is a classic but why cant we have Solid state stuff like Attack From Mars and Medieval Madness first then stuff like Indy and STNG and Twighlight Zone (Ive owned my self MM,STNG,TZ,TOM out of Williams Bally Stuff). I would buy this for Funhouse but by god I miss my Medieval Madness pinball REAL table I had to sell a yr ago (bought a Sony X and a PS3 with it as got too ill to use em) everyday and with this engine they would be fantastic. You could really go to town with Williams/Bally stuff from Monster Bash, Theatre of Magic/Circus Voltaire/ and of course Pat Lawlor stuff like Adams Family. I can see myself saving up again in a few years for another medieval (or failing that attack from mars) even if I never use it hardly. I had a load of real pins for about 2yrs even had some Stern stuff although their not as well made (simpsons party pinball and LOTR trilogy) and had to sell the lot and they can do em right if they want to on consoles/cpu (pro pinballs where very good compared to real thing)

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection for Sony PSPPinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection faithfully recreates eight of the most memorable tables from the golden age of pinball in photorealistic 3D. Working closely with Williams to ensure authenticity of each of the games, the collection is highlighted by some of the most popular and innovative Williams pinball tables, including Gorgar, the first-ever talking pinball machine, Black Knight, which introduced "Magna-Save" and Bonus Ball, and Space Shuttle, which took the pinball industry by storm in 1984.

For those who seek the PSP version.

Unfortunately Play-Asia won't ship here because they hate me.

Is this a multi-screen vertical scrolling affair, or is each table on single screen?

I quite liked Gottlieb on the Wii..some nice tables. If this is better..i'm all for it. A bit a pinball breaks up the majority of FPS i seem to play these days.

Williams/Bally real tables you cant get any better. Funhouse is a fantastic pin (still wish we could get solid state stuff from around STNG/IJ up to the end of MM and Cactuc Canyon though!) and its worth it for that alone. Im counting down the PAL days.

I've enjoyed Whirlwind and Funhouse so much that I've still not tried the other tables.
