Thats I was wondering. I remember from the previous MKs when you held down the button you'd hold the item behind you, but when I do it in this he just throws it anyway. I'll try right or left on the dpad.

update : just held down right instead of down, and it worked. thanks for the help.

Also, does the kart change your chances of getting a good item? I'm fed up of falling to the back (as you do) and only getting medium items, while everyone else gets stars and those power bullets or whatever.

Not that i've noticed. I don't think kart matters.

In regards to this online match we're playing right now, I would like to say that JP is the dirtiest online player I have ever met so far.

ALL he's doing is knocking people off the road. He's not even caring about position, just braking hard and deliberately griefing. What an absolute tosser.

You stand more chance of the big stuff at the back like the big bullet on a high random percentage. Doesnt matter what vehicle you use m8. From single player and doing all the cups over 12hours I hardly ever got the blue shell when I was at the back but had the bullet alot but Id end up more than not with either unlimited boost or star most of time.

I know, I'm just saying that despite this what i get from item boxes are pretty crap.

You will get a run though m8 of loads of red shell drops as number 1 (even though thats a rare drop at first) and what happened with me 2 bullets on the trot from last to 7th then same again to 1st on last lap. Basically sods law m8 lol

Could an owner explain how the wheel controls steering, accelerating, braking and firing items? I assume it's the 1, 2 and A buttons on the remote with tilting the wheel left and right to steer?

In the nunch and remote set-up is the steering on the analogue stick? Is there any aiming of items with the remote in this mode?

For accelerate its button 2, 1 is brake/drift. But i prefer hitting the B button at the back of the wheel for brakes/drifts as its more comfortable. The D-pad launches weapons. To do tricks give the wheel a shake just before a jump, do these as often as possible as they give you mini boosts. Also pull back on the wheel to do wheelies with the bikes.

Anyone know how to get rid of the POW attack? I saw it on the 1up show but i forgot what they said.

The only thing with the POW attack I can figure out is it only affects you if you're on the ground. If a POW attack comes along and there's a jump infront of you, as long as you're in the air you're safe.

If there's a proper way to avoid it, i'd love to know.

Same here, i love foiling peoples red turtle shells. Just drop a green shell behind you before it hits. Brill, it makes me chuckle. I wish this game had voice comms though, if Pokemon Pearl & Diamond can do it, why not this.

Just hold the shells behind you. Don't worry about dropping them. Whenever you're in a top position just hold it. Shells do nothing on you.

The triple banana makes an amazing countermeasure for that same reason.

I don't think i could hold on to one for a whole lap. Im sure it must annoy people a hell of alot that i foil them at the last minute. I just do it for a laugh.

interesting nerdish conversation elsewhere about how the online is made so silky smooth and lag free, opinion is that the system isn't 100% precise to your actual input and their is a lot of 'client side' (i.e. on the wii) prediction going on of the other karts placement, which prevents the teleporting you often see on other titles.

there has to be some black magic going on as i was wondering the other day how this could send back info of 2 of us on one machine when most titles struggle with single player info.

It won't matter whether it's sending to/from 1 or 2 people on 1 machine, in fact that part makes it easier. It's just sending the same things to everyone.
What it's doing (I think) to keep it smooth is having each wii running it's own "version" of the game. So on my console everyone else is in one position, and on someone elses they're somewhere else. It keeps updating to keep them all close enough, but it means that things like blocking/ramming other karts is pointless as on their wii you'll probably miss and so it won't affect them. Similar direct hits with green shells might not actually do anything. Reds are OK though cause they home, same with various other things. it's all so chaotic you won't really notice.
Most driving games do this, along with pretty much any other game with "no lag". Blazing Skies did I'm pretty sure for example. You couldn't really have a driving game with any input lag at all so it's the only option.

Has anyone unlocked the ability to use their own mii yet?

Yup it even knows how big they are by the size you've made them. (I think).
