Mario Kart (Wii)

Got this today but as it's the Japanese version, I'm having a bit of trouble finding out where I add people to can play online. Can anyone help?
Also, where do you download the Mario Kart channel which shows you who is online? Is it in-game or from the Wii Store?

God the AI sure cheats on this game. I hate the fact you can't get anything decent on the roulette wheel when your in the top 3, making the whole idea of a roulette retarded.

Got my JPN copy yesterday and from what I can remember to add friends codes you go to the wifi option and once connected choose the 3rd option down, I think that's right anyway as I haven't added anyone yet. I think the Mario Kart channels on the 4th option on the main menu, just under the 3 to 4 player mode, when you select that theres another option with GO written in a blue box I'm sure I chose that and it started downloading the channel.

Just deleted my Mario Kart channel to work out how I downloaded it in the first place, although I sure theres an easier way what I did was choose the 4th option on the main screen, then the option with a picture of my mii, wait for that to connect, when connected exit that, choose the option with the chequred flag, something should come up about connect 24, exit that then choose the option with the blue go, answer yes and it should download.

How does Toad handle? He is my choice in MK games generally, anyone else have a sodt spot for the old mushroom head?

It's all about classes not characters. Toad handles no differently than Baby Mario, Baby Peach or Baby Luigi etc.

It's the karts that differ.

At least I think I'm right about this?

Not so sure about that. My favoured combo at the moment is Yoshi on his first bike but I can't get on with Mario or Luigi and I suppose they're in the same classes.
Hopefully someone else can shed some more light on it.
Anyway, what's everyone using? I need a decent TT combo please!

there's a thread on gamefaqs where a guy claims the online although lag free is a big lie. He plays online with like 8 of his friends chatting in a lobby on Halo 3 and that's allows them to tell that what you see on your screen can differ hugely from what other people see, even to the point of different people winning on different people's screens. It's not concrete yet but maybe it could explain the lag free gameplay and nintendos reluctance to give voice chat.

but if a human is controlling a character that gets hit with a shell on their screen and stops racing, but on your screen they don't. If they stop racing because they've been hit do they slow down on yours or does the CPU take over!

I'm sticking with koopa at the mo, as I loved him on the snes, but yoshi was always my boy on n64 so we'll see what happens. A quick look at the world record ghosts online, and it seems the pros seem to prefer a DK lookalike.

Is there anyway to stop the item spinner sooner? Maybe im imagining it but i remember that you could do this for the n64 or gamecube games..my memorys a bit vague.

Loving this, although online is awsome ive had a couple of probs which might explain the lag free. I came 1st on a race but when the leader board came up with our times I was 4th >.> and also some races ive come 1st but and its shown as 1st but ive not got as many points at 2nd and 3rd.

Happened to me on a early morning session about 8am, has been fine every evening ive played.
