Daigasso Band Brothers DX [JPN DS]

Loving this, especially the karaoke mode (though only at home).
The controls have been tweaked a little, so not to use the touch screen at all, and changing the layout of buttons.
From what I remember of the first game, there was a bit of a jump between using any button on the D-pad or any of ABXY to using each one separately that I just couldn't keep up with.

When you first start the game you try out on the normal and karaoke modes so Barbara can assess your ability.
I got 2 (out of 10) stars first try. After this you can take part in "Today's live" to find out if you're ability has improved.

I've spent most of the time downloading songs to play and playing them in my sister-in-law's ear to annoy her while she's on WoW.

The bad news: it's true, you can only download and store 100 songs, and CANNOT delete them.
Almost all of the songs you download do come with karaoke lyrics, and 100 is a lot of songs in my opinion.

I hope new songs come out, as those 11 are the only ones I want from the 202 that are available at the moment.

The songs normally in english DO have english lyrics, so there's no language problem there.

I should mention the radio stations too. The first just has Barbara talking about and playing the song on your game, whereas the Wifi radio connects to the net to play the top 10 most downloaded songs of the day and then plays any newly released songs. There is a link on screen so you can easily download the song that is currently playing if you like it. The the normal radio will still play music even if you close your DS.


How to download the speaker channel:

- Load the Shopping Channel and get to the main menu.

- Select 設定・その他

- Input the number you have in the DBBDX box (NOT the Club Nintendo one) and click OK. The two following screens then tell you:
1. You NEED a DS and copy of the game to use the channel
2 You can only download the channel onto one Wii using the one code, after inputting the code it will be linked to the Wii so the channel can be re-downloaded from the regular Wii Channel download section in the shopping channel.

I could not believe it when I woke up this morning and found my copy had dropped through the letterbox, that sets an all time record from posting from japan, TWO DAYS!!! Well it's my record anyway.

My contact in Japan managed to get the game off a small store who broke the release date when he got his copies in, anyway, my thought's.

The game is absolutely incredible and i am hugely impressed with what i have played of it so far, and the speaker channel and download service is just incredible, and ligtning quick too, my pikmin theme tooks seconds to download.

I'm not too sure on the karaoke though and will need the help of Importaku or other japanese speakers to translate the kana for me into enlish writing that I can pronounce, I can read some of it, and pronounce it, but other words are just coming too fast, so hopefully poeple will translate the songs into english text, and then I can take part in that part of the game.

I absolutely love the feel of the game so far and in my honest opinion, after five hours of play, this is fricking amazing, it's so, so much more polished than the first game, and you can see that the first game was gba port when you play this game. I have played about with the game alot, repaeting stuff and so on, so I'm taking it slowly and savouring every moment, but I'm progressing nicely, and it looks like with all the downloadable content as well, this is gonnna be a beast of a game.

The radio modes, are just fantastic, I love just listening to some of the tunes, and the wifi radio service is just brilliant, it's an amzing addition to the game, and another innovation in game design from nintendo. It really feels as though this is what the 64DD Mario Artist cancelled Sound title would have been like with the networking features and the like, and the download space etc. Also the game works with the GBA slot so possible that will be how you get round the hundred song limit.

Graphics and sound are amazing, especially through the speaker channel, which is phenomonal. I also love the fact that the game has strumming for the guitar this time, and as a guitarist, I was able to do some very cool thingsa when playing around with it, and you can do lead guitar solos, as the guitar reacts only to the string's you strum, really cool and amazing innovation from Ninty again!!!

I'm hugely impressed by this so far, and like a couple of other ds games I got recently, i just cannot put the game down.

I'd take pictures, but my camera is fecked, and I have not got round to choosing a new one, and my camera phone and web cam is hopeless at taking ds pics. My new Camera will be with me next week, it's just collecting has put it o the backburner for now, and all the ones I have in stock for customers are new, and i wouldn't ever use a customer's camera and then sell it as new. Also this time, I went for a high end Sony camera that is great for taking CRT pictures as well as everything else, as I plan to take pics of My jap HD CRT sony, for members of the forum to see the difference in quality between HDCRT and HD LCD/plasma.b thats for another topic though.

For this topic, the game is sublime, the sound is sublime, the difficulty/learning curve so far has been sublime, the artwork is just gorgeous, and the game is just, so, so, so much fun!!!! This is the sequel we all hoped and dreamed for, and nintendo have delivered on all levels. Now to get back to the game, lol!!!

Some random first impressions:

- the arrangements are a lot more fun, especially on the classical stuff. The compositions seem more flexible too, so overall the sound quality is better.
- midi type cheese will still be a barrier to entry for some, which is a shame, but I'm enjoying it
- wii channel is very nice but cannot be used when going for scores, boo. Sound quality via the speaker channel is great, and following that you get a band-eye view on the DS, you get a crowd-eye view on the channel, a nice touch.
- download system works very well, Final Countdown and Ghostbusters are must-haves. I'd got 18 out of 100 already, will have to hold off for Magical Sound Shower (thats JASRAC, right!?). Think I may be looking at a multi-cart binge here.
- karaoke is very good but I am very bad at singing.
- strumming mode is much better than expected, with excellent customisability and rumble support.
- the included music genres are pretty limited, downloading is essential. Makes out-the-box experience lamer than the first game, lack of video game tunes in particular hurts it.
- note tails now disappear even if your timing is completely off, helps you visually get an idea how you are doing but I don't think it affects score.
- menus are more confusing than the first to begin with, but click after 30 mins groping around. May put off some importers.
- there are some voice recording parts I don't understand.
- difficulty is pitched somewhere between the first game and the expansion pack (which felt like it was designed to push seasoned players more).
- there is a new 4 button difficulty to ease the transition from beginner to amateur, good stuff.
- the star rating system is more granular; there are more stars.
- everything seemed to be unlocked from the beginning, pro mode and edit mode
- I've already unlocked a few songs
- I seem to be unlocking 56 instruments by hacking away at individual songs, each of which plays a small excerpt from a Nintendo tune. Those tunes had better be unlockable or else this feature is TOTAL BASTARD.
- There is some kind of performance single player mode that earns you a star rating and tracks the number of 'encores' (consecutive 90+ scores) you get in a row. star ratings can go down as well as up, got up to 7, not sure what the end game is here.

Cool, i'm really struggling with the menus with this game, it seems to have a different layout than the first!

Good to see they've stopped pirates from using their cards with it too.

well tried playing with the save files today i can back up the save from the cart but restoring a blank save dosent seem to overwrite the old save so the songs must be stored in a different bit of the cart by the look of it but im sure those talanted hackers will create a save tool like they did with the first game.

Umm thats just great, put the code in on my wii to get the speaker channel everything was going ok got to the last screen where it shows you the blocks it takes up i selected the bottom right option but thats all that happened i didnt get the mario download screen & its not in the wii shop anywhere & its not on my wii. I tried the code again & now it says its used, where is the channel meant to be?

Cheers for the menu translations. It seems this game doesn't have a proper single player mode like the first, it seems more free for all this time round.

The tracklisting isn't half as good as the first one, but then i'm a sucker for Nintendo tunes really

Tried the expansion out today sadly it didnt work, the only extra to work is the rumble pak.

& yes you can only get the speaker channel on a jpn wii as you have to download it from the jpn shopping channel.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but do I need a Jpn Wii to download the extra songs? I've got this in the post, and am a bit worried my PAL Wii means that this won't be a worthwhile purchase.
