    BIOHAZARD ZERO wii version

I just got this through the post box this morning, and as expected, this is just a direct port of the gamecube version with no motion controls whatsoever, and no graphical upgrades whatsoever either, the widescreen isn't even true 16;9 , and the graphics, and cutscenes are identical to the Gc release.

So why bother, well you can play the game with a classic pad, finaly giving you decent control over the game, as the game plays infinetly better with the classic pas's d pad control, and I was surprised at how much better I liked the game with the big d pad for control, also the game is now on one disk, so no swapping. Also you don't have to swap controllers to play the game now, you can just use your wii controller remote and nunchuk, or the classic controller. I like the port cause it's just less hassle, don't have to remeber to put in agc memory card , controler etc... and it is a great game alot of people missed, cause the cube was so unpopular in japan, so i guess thats why they released the game there.

But there is no wii specific stuff here for anyone, it's just a chance to play the game on your wii with one dosk, and the wii controller, and if you didn't have a gamecube and missed out on this game, then it is well worth the purchase, if not, and you have played it, well only get it if you are like me and want the wii version for less hassle, and to play the game with the classic pad.

This must stand as the most pointless re-release of all time, surely? So basically there is absolutely nothing different other than the reduction in discs used? That is unbelievable. Talk about ripping off the fans as well - shame on you Capcom.

That's disappointing; I don't think that the option to use the Classic Controller and not having to swap discs is a fantastic reason to re-release a game that you can buy pre-owned for pennies. I never finished the GC version so I was interested to see if this would bring about enough changes to make me play it, but it appears not.

Thanks for the information, I couldn't find any other hands-on impressions of it.

Sounds like the biggest waste of time ever, in all honesty. I know it's nothing new for Capcom to re-release their back catalogue on newer formats, but they're asking for critisism by releasing this on the Wii. It's no suprised their western divisions are choosing not to release this port, as there would be such a backlash. Not to mention the fact that I don't like the Classic Controller.

Still, going back to the game itself, it's a decent enough Resi game, crippled only by it's own experimentation with the formula. This was their first attempt at ditching the 'magic item boxes' (though I didn't really have a problem with them), and is evidently the transitional stage they went through before settling on the RE4 system. I found this to be the most infurating part of the game however, because I must have spend half of my time playing the game transporting items from one location to another, before finding out

there is an elevator connecting the latter half of the game to the main hall, so you can just dump everything in the main hall and leave it there!

. Honestly, anyone playing the game should not fall into the trap of bothering to transport items with you.

Still, I feel guilt in critisising it's attempts at experiementing with the formula, and while it's nowhere near as good as Remake (still the best Resi in my opinion, better than RE4), there's a nice Resi here for the fans who can push through the game's 'complications'.

wow so all the coding they did for this was to remap the buttons and possibly change some icons?

Where's our REmake 2 capcom! you promised us some proper Wii RE games if UC sold and it did!

I simply have no idea what took them so long to code the wii version, as it so far has shown me nothing new. Maybe there are some extras to unlock but I highly doubt it.

I think they just ported this to get more sales pure and simple, and all the extra coding was just remapping the buttons.

So what exactly does the 16:9 mode look like? Does it still use the 4:3 ratio backgrounds and just stretch the whole image, or what?

There is no 16;9 mode to speak off really, it just detects the screen as your wii states in your wii profile, and strecthes the image to fit the screen. It'snot proper 16:9 though, so yes it is just strecthing the image, and if your screen is too wide, then I hear there are borders.

I was amazed when I found this advertised on PA the other day; really, really, odd. Might be an interesting curio in years to come.

Thanks for posting your impressions, interesting reading. Is there any pointing with the Wii remote? I got the impression from other comments that you could point on-screen for aiming.

Does it support prog scan? The US version on the GC didn't What do you mean when you say it stretches the image? Zoomed in?

I personally don't begrudge Capcom this re-release, after all the stalwart support they gave to the GC and other flagging consoles over the years.
