    Galaga Legions [XBLA]

Had to give this a go as i always loved Galaga 88 on the PC Engine.

The first thing that grabs you is the graphics. The use of colour and the amount of enemies is mesmorising - it sure is pretty.

Anyway, its typical Galaga formula here. Waves of enemies string around the screen to be shot at. The difference is each wave has a key enemy, shoot this enemy and the whole string is destroyed. Then there is your ship which has 2 satelites. These can be deployed by pressing the right anologue stick in the desired direction. This holds them in place shooting in the direction you pressed, so you can leave them to shoot at formations entering from the side for example whilst you attack elsewhere.

I'm just scratching the surface here but it seems a very slick and fun game, so thumbs up from me so far.

Nice first impressions. I too am a fan of '88 so this was always going to be an instant purchase for me. Is there any kind of multiplayer on it?

      No multiplayer

There is two modes of play. Adventure is just the standard arcade mode and Championship is a score attack mode for each level.

Thought this was pretty good personally. Very fun to play and looks lovely when you use the classic skin.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder I suppose and maybe I've been spoilt by Geometry Wars 2's beautiful neon vibrancy but, graphically, I thought this quite poor and the choice of colour very bland and muted.

I thought this looked lovely, great swirly patterns on the screen and lovely glowy waves of enemies, funny things is i found geo wars 2 to be quite boring but then i do have the wii version and the original 360 version.

It's beyond me how you can say this is bland and muted. It uses darker colours against Geo Wars bright lines, but that doesn't make it dull, just slightly different. I think it's slightly more sophisticated, more refined pallette than Geo Wars (although i can see why Geo Wars colours are necessary to that game). It reminds me more of Mutant Storm - which is no bad thing.

If this is dull and muted, Gears of War and Killzone must be gaming equivalent of John Major.

'Tis good this, but I'm probably not in the mood for a really deep shooter at the moment. It's a big memory test too, learning the pattern and direction that the enemies appear. Definately one on the 'to buy later' list.

I dunno, coming from the creators of Pacman C.E., I was hoping Galaga would look similarly bright and psychedelic and just don't get on with the games darker, more conservative palette. To be fair though, I love the Geo Wars games so much, especially the saturated and explosive use of colour, that, to my mind, practically every other shooter looks somewhat bland in comparison. 'Cept Space Giraffe. And Rez.

Charlie - change the game skin to "ancient" or "vintage" for birghter colours and funky pixel style graphics.

                      Looks miles better then imo!

Thinks it's a 360 exclusive. I'll edit the title now to avoid confusion, I had to check IGN for the format when this was posted yesterday.
