Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty (PSN/PS3)

This is my first "First Play" thread so please let me know if you want any more info and I'll do what I can to help

I couldn't wait to download this yesterday as I had enjoyed it's big brother, Tools of Destruction, so much. The downloadable version is £9.99 to buy on the PSN and will be available on BD soon (September 12th I think). It is a little over 3100mb and has 4-5 hours of gameplay apparently.

I managed to have a quick go last night and I can tell you now that it is wonderful. If you liked ToD and the games that have preceded it, then you will enjoy this just as much. Yes, you could argue that it is more of the same and you know what they say, if it ain't broke....

Set in the same pirate-themed universe as ToD, the search is on for

Clank, who was taken by the Zoni chaps at the end of the last game

(don't read that spoilered section if you haven't completed ToD, but you will find out what it is if you play Quest for Booty!). Ratchet is joined by the girl from the last game who assists him in his quest (sorry, her name eludes me for the moment).

Ratchet has a new, lighter ummmm.....ratchet; constructed from titanium which allows our hero to also use it as a boomerang-style projectile. It also seems to use some kind of static electricity to attach itself to out-of-reach platforms etc which you then pull down, or towards you.

You also start the game with a few of the great weapons from ToD, Ratchet's blaster, the 'Predator'-style homing weapon, bombs, tornados and couple of others. In addition, you have your anti-grav boots, rail-sliding boots and the slingshot, all of which are extremely cool.

As I say, I haven't played that much of this yet but it looks to be great fun. And if the lack of longevity is putting you off, it is worth noting that the game, unlike any previous incarnations, has three difficulty settings (easy, medium and hard), so it will be a worth a replay or two I reckon.

Cheers for the impressions Dan. I loved TOD so this sounds like more of the same, which is great. Do you think it's worth £9.99 for a few hours gameplay though? TOD had so much playability that it was well worth the money. Could you say the same for this?
Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.

Thanks figflair Well, I'm not sure yet as I've only done the first 2 levels or so and they have been ace so far, so I think the fact that it is cheap at £9.99, and the developers bothered to add 3 difficulty levels does make it worthwhile, especially if you enjoy the games. It is a PSN title first and formost, so it's pretty good if you think of it that way. It's a quarter of the price of ToD as well, but I don't feel so far that I've only got a quarter of a game that had been rushed together to make a quick buck. This is a cool fun game that sits well in the R&C universe

I'm glad to read this is being released on disk, too. Hopefully it indicates that some other stuff from PSN / Arcade will also get disk-based releases.

R&C: QFB is more of the same but is still a joy to play.

          For those who have finished;

the (short) game started to pick up and I enjoyed the onslaught of enemies in the last 15-20 minutes but to actually see Clank and not find him is another kick-in-the-balls cliffhanger.

I'm pleased to realise that Ratchet (and Clank?) will be returning next year though!

Did any of you folks manage to find

Captain Quark in the far deep end of the water off the beach in Hoolefar? It was a nice surprise!

Downloading this now. Tools of Destruction was one of my fave games in 2007 so I am really looking forward to playing this.

Bit miffed as I thought I'd watch a Blu-ray while it downloaded but for some reason doing that pauses my download. I was halfway through 300 before I realised.

It's certainly an excellent game. A bite sized piece of Ratchet and Clank action.

I'm downloading this now. Did around 40% early morning before bed and its flew through another 40% in about 1 hour. (then there is the dreaded install!)

I haven't played Ratchet and Clank chronologically, and I still haven't gotten around to playing TOD.

As i'm not a die-hard...missing story pieces or getting it in the wrong order doesn't bother me.

I'm pretty excited though as I know what to expect. I'll post up some impressions shortly.

I really wouldn't recommend playing this before completing TOD - you'll basically know what happens right at the end of the game. It'll ruin the cliffhanger.

                    Is this the cliffhanger

Clank gets kidnapped and you have to save him?

                      Half yes, half no.

He gets kidnapped, but the game ends without you going after him. Looks like they're saving that for the next proper Ratchet game.

                      You're all set then. Enjoy.
