Duke Nukem 3D - Xbox Live Arcade

I’ve just been playing this for an hour or so and thoroughly enjoying it.

In essence it’s Duke Nukem 3D all over again so it comes down to how well it’s been ported, and it’s been done expertly. You can play the game exactly how hardware at the time ran it with no mucking around with the original code. There is a smoothing option, which completely ruins all the art however this can be switched off along with the motion blurring. The game runs in 4:3 as it was intended and the controller works perfectly, with all options mapable to other buttons.

What really completes the port is the inclusion of the expansion pack and all the online and Co-Op options that is expected with a next generation release. They really could not of done anything else to make it feel more value for money. It's still a brilliant, brilliant game.

    Anyone else playing it?

I've been playing it myself. Its still a great game today, i remember getting wowed when you crush someone using the door, to see their guts stick to the bottom and stretch when the door opens. lol.

I turned the smoothing and motion bluring off. Can't stand them. I was hoping they might have tweaked the game itself, because i still hate the way buttons work in this game. You have to be in the right area to switch them, even if your right up close it still wouldn't activate unless your in the right angle or height.

Played through the first episode last night. Remember the first few levels off by heart, but a lot of the later levels I have totally forgotten, so for the most part its a new game. Not a single peice of censorship either. The button thing really gets on my tits too, especially when you're underwater and running out of oxygen!

        I got this as well.

You can shoot the buttons you know - in fact a couple of puzzles require you to do this!

Finished episode 1 - great game. Love how its Doom but more 3D basically

Played a bit of deathmatch too which is rare for me but it was just crazy good fun. There is an arena which is just a football pitch. 8 dukes in a big rectangle? CARNAGE.

As I never finished the game on PC this is a definate purchase for me. Its good to ahve a shooter that doesn't take itself too seriously. If we need to go back in time to get that then so be it.

Running out of oxygen is the biggest problem you have? How about losing 75% of your hp from a single shotgun blast on the easiest setting lol.

Not even at point blank range either -.-

            Yes, i do know that.
I try to conserve as much ammo as possible, i don't want to shoot every button i come across. I am playing it on Come Get Some after all.

Yep - loving it, especially the way you can respawn after death at any point of the game in single player mode - great touch...

It's also great to be able to view the top 10 times for each level on the leader boards, so whenever I get stuck on a level, I quickly check them out to see where I need to go to find a keycard, or whatever.

Player some multiplayer which was awesome too - very lag-free too!!

Completed the single player today on "come get some" difficulty. Love the digs on other games from that era, most notably id games.

There's 2 hi res screens of Duke Forever for those who get 200/200 achievement points too. And they're sweeeet.

1 of them is. The gameplay one is a shot of him reloading a shotgun while facing one of the squiddies.

They look great (a quick google search will find them). Going off the visuals it definitely looks a cut above most next-gen FPS's out there at the moment.

Still enjoying this, just completed the 2nd chapter. It's easy to forget just how much more advanced gameplay wise DN3D was over all the Doom powered games of the time, heck even Quake didn't even build on the benchmark. Need to get online at some point and kick some ass.

I just finished this for all its 200 gamerscores worth. an absolute blast to play again and those screenshots are even better on a HDTV!

One is a First person shot, reloading infront of an octobrain and the other is in-engine shot of duke infront of strippers.

I tried the demo of this and it made me feel ill

I don't normally get motion sickness from games but this did me right in. I believe high frame rates (like this has) can cause this? The lack of perspective correction gives me a headache too. I know it's supposed to be a port of an old game but it's seriously surprised me that they didn't fix this.
