Its a really solid game and I can't really agree with the lower ratings such as IGN's.
I do understand what they say about the lack of tension so far. Controls for battling and dodging are simply too well done making the fights kind of easy. But is this a bad thing? Not everyone likes the wooden controls from old SH and RE games, they don't see that it adds to the tension. The tradeoff is that you seem to get more enemies onscreen at times.
So if you hated the old SH controls, but liked SH otherwise i'd say you might as well pick it up. Its far better than the Room, and I feel its actually up there with the original and 3. SH2 was simply the best for its extremely clever storyline.
RE5 is getting the same treatment, its being said that you can run 'n gun now. Will that also receive the same criticism?Last edited by saturn-gamer; 07-10-2008, 17:47.

As for Resident Evil 5 they've added strafe controls but you still can't run and shoot apparently, you have to fire from one position.Last edited by mr_woo; 07-10-2008, 19:41.

Been really enjoying this far. Great atmosphere and I love the grain filter, reminds me of an old grindhouse film at times (though of course not that bad, a lot more subtle than that). Maybe it's just me but the sound design on this is great, you really need to play it on a surround sound kit. It's extremely freaky
The story's got me very intrigued so far as well, I'm definitely interested in what's going on. The combat so far has actually been fun also, one monster jumped out and made me ****e myself before I stuck a pipe in its head
Also, I am happy to say that the Akira Yamaoka music is brilliant so far from what I've heard.

I bought mine on Ebay, so hopefully it will turn up tomorrow. I'm quite looking forward to this now judging from the praise in this thread. Do love the cover on the us version even with the ****e homecoming font.

Is it Silent Hill 2 scary? I don't get scared by games or films. I'm too desensitised to that kind of thing, i appreciate these games for their atmosphere and art direction.
In Silent Hill 2 when you were in that Prison. You could feel the atmosphere pressed on you. The thing is imagine what its like if your a person who gets scared easily.I can't imagine what its like for them in that situation. I feel like i'm missing out most of the time. But i do feel the sense of pressure.

Im still absolutely loving this, just finished in the
hotel
. This part of the game has been excellent. Full of atmosphere and Silent Hill wierdness and another nice cameo
from a Pyramid Head
. This is where the combat got tougher too. at the begining of the game the Nurses seems pretty weak and redundant, in the
hotel
however, they became much faster, here they also introduced a new enemy. its incredibly fun to take down and can punish you heavily on a misplaced dodge or swipe. Boss in this level was class too. All kinds of gruesome and the combat made the boss fun to dispatch.
Overall this part of the game is showing Alex is not an overpowering killing machine and the tension and atmosphere is almost certainly there.
Lastly, is this game scary? Well with surround sound i've nearly messed myself up a few times. I love it, dont want it to end ever.
