We Cheer (US Wii) Best rhythm game ever

Look at the box, this is what your going to deal with, if your too insecure you might as well stop reading now

Officially the best music rhythm game on the Wii full stop. Forget the rather good DDR hottest party, forget the piece of **** sega threw out as samba, bandai namco games got it right on their first attempt, i wont even mention wii music (crap i just did)

So whats the game about, err cheerleading (more people run for the door) hear me out. Imagine ouendan made for the wii, this is as close as your going to ever get unless they make an official ouendan game.

The idea of the game is simple, you copy what the cheerleaders on screen are doing, theres 2 sets of lines red & blue which correspond to your left & right hands. Now as the lines appear a star will move down the line & when it reaches the end of the line if you moved in the correct direction it will give you a cool mark.

Not only have to move in the right direction but you also have to move at the right speed to match the speed of the star travelling down the line, if you go too fast or too slow the game will let you know. The idea is if you learn the routine & copy the girls movements onscreen you will be moving at the right speed to hit the marks. The game dosent use the ir pointer funcion of the remotes so you dont have to worry about facing the screen. But dont think you can just randomly flail your arms around & expect to pass the song, the game is lenient but it wont just let you randomly swing your arms about all the time. To clear a song you have to fill the megaphone meter at the bottom of the screen, you will have to get a lot of cool marks to clear the song & it's pretty hard to do, and i have only learnt a few of the songs. When i failed it was because i wasn't moving correct, not the controls. The game has a tempo meter in the bottom left of the screen which flashes to the beat of the song to help you keep time. The game uses 2 wii remotes but if you dont have 2 it will let you play with one & you can select which hand to play the game in & the game will adjust accordingly.

When you first start the game you will be given a tutorial which will teach you exactly how to play. You can access this tutorial later if you need to do it in the menu screen.

Heres a video to show you how it works

Theres a few modes in the game the main mode is you go round various stadiums & beat other cheerleaders when you beat them by beating a song they will join your squad, each stage has a different set of songs to choose from & you unlock more stages by beating more songs. Theres about 30 songs in the game & i actually like most of them, teen pop & skater boy stuff is how i'd describe it but they are very fun to dance to.

Heres the song list, these are actual liscensed tracks & not covers, hehe imagine my suprise when i heard erasure. heres the full song list

? "Walking On Sunshine" - Aly & AJ
? "It Takes Two" - Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock
? "If You're Gonna Jump (Paul Oakenfold Remix)" - Natasha Bedingfield
? "Push It To The Limit" - Corbin Bleu
? "I Want Candy" - Bow Wow Wow
? "On Top Of The World" - Boys Like Girls
? "The Great Escape" - Boys Like Girls
    ? "Godspeed" - BT
? "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" - C+C Music Factory
? "Eye Of The Tiger (Sunset Crew Radio Mix)" - Crew 7
? "Come Clean" - Hilary Duff
    ? "Unbelievable" - EMF
    ? "Calabria 2008" - Enur feat. Natasja
    ? "Star" - Erasure
    ? "Perfect Day" - Hoku
? "That's The Way (I Like It)" - KC & The Sunshine Band
    ? "I Say Hey" - Kinky
    ? "Footloose" - Kenny Loggins
    ? "Bodyrock" - Moby
? "Born for This" - Paramore
? "Our Time Now" - Plain White T's
    ? "C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)" - Quad City DJ's
    ? "I'd Do Anything" - Simple Plan
    ? "Jump" - Simple Plan
? "Stamp Your Feet" - Donna Summer
? "Whoomp! (There It Is)" - Tag Team
? "In This Diary" - The Ataris
? "Groovy Train" - The Farm
? "The Power Is On" - The Go! Team
? "Huddle Formation" - The Go! Team

The next mode is cheer off, which is a multiplayer mode agains other human players, not really tried this mode as i only have 2 remotes.

The final mode is workout mode where you follow the moves to burn off the calories, playing this game in general works up quite a sweat as you really have to move, but in this mode they incorporate the moves into a workout, not sure if it would really help lose weight but it certainly will burn calories off you.

Theres an option to customize the look of your cheer squad, you can dress them up in the clothes you get by beating songs/stages & completeing workout mode. Not entirely essential but fun if your into that stuff LOL, i think i'll pass thanks.

The options mode has the ability to adjust the red & blue lines to thinner ones or even turn them off if you know all the routines. Theres also a timing adjustment for people with newer high def tv's so you can compensate for the lag.

All in all a fantastic fun game & one i love playing, & a perfect game to get out at a party, Sorry samba but you have been surpassed.

The gameplay does look ace but the visuals and music... I'm just not sure I could do it.

How responsive are the Wii Remotes? I've yet to find a motion controlled rhythm game that works 100% of the time.

Any game that has 'The Farm' in it's soundtrack is instantly ignored.

The controls work perfect for me, like i said before the only reason you miss a mark is if you have the timing or speed off.

So far as i get better i notice the miss marks get less & less as my timing improves. Cant wait till the 28th of oct as the japanese version is getting released & its been totally changed it might as well be a whole new game

I was put off by one review saying the controls are the downfall of this game. I trust your opinion more than theirs i may hunt this out.

            Cheers for the impressions

The controls are only crap if you have no rthythm, if you go at the right speed they work every time. Thats the problem people seem to be having from what i read before i got it, the stars change speed throughout the songs so one second your quickly spinning next second you have to move slower into an arc, if your going too fast or too slow you wont get a cool mark.

The coreography for the song is done in front of you so if you try to learn it you will notice your hands go at the right speeds so you end up hitting all the marks on time. As a bonus you will look Fahhhhhbulous as you play (miniskirt & pompoms optional)

Maybe it's because I'm a white male with no rhythm but it's hard... but it's still enjoyable, best game ever by far.... by far I tell you, am trying to learn all the coreography too, fantastic I say !

Difficult to keep up with the changing speeds, but the most exercise I've probably ever had !

                  GOTY!

Just read the review on gamepro, LOL laughable isn't the word. He blasted it on nearly everything. Just goes to show they will let any old fool do game reviews.

No story, err since when did a music game have any story. Oh yeah i bought DDR due to the epic storyline about how they wanted to become dancers. I bought taiko no tatsujin for the wonderfull interaction & plot development between characters

Unresponsive controls, yes he struggled with the game apparently it has random non existant controls. Strange as my controls work fine hmm i must have magic wii remotes, or maybe it's because i paid attention to the parts where the game was telling me i was the wrong speed & adjusted myself accordingly.

He also complained saying it was near impossible to play as the trace line appear from nowhere with no warning, what you mean like pretty much every other music game out there. The idea is your meant to learn the dance pattern, it's not our fault your a **** gamer.

If this game was **** i would have said so, i don't try & stick up for a game just because i bought it. However others on the net (not on here before you start) seem to be going out of their way to make sure it sells as little as possible because it's not their image of a "real" game. Ewww cheerleaders, eww pink colours, ewww pop music, oh no my masculinity feels threatened i must bash this game & call it shovelware & total ****. Yeah thats better i feel all manly now.

As an update i managed to finish the main mode last night, it was tough as some of the later songs have complex routines, but i now have all 30 songs playable once you complete a song in normal mode you then get to choose difficult mode where the routines are a lot more complex, some are great fun to do, especially if you like to dance.

Is this an adapted Japanese game (like a lot of these music rhythm games are, soundtrack switched to western music), or is it a full-on western-orientated one?

It's a weird one as when you look at the credits theres pretty much nothing but japanese programmers on there, im guessing bandai namco games made it in japan but for the west. Bit in essence yes its a game developed for the west, all of the songs & routines were done with the west in mind. It's not coming to japan at all, from what i can see.

Japan is getting something called happy dance collection made by just namco (see headlines for info) the idea is similar but its not cheerleading but idol singing, all the songs are japanese & the dancing has been changed.

So when do you have to make the moves?

Do you have to follow the star and the speed of the star or can you do the move any time before the star reaches the end?

                            Comment

For maximum accuracy you get best results by following the stars as they appear & at the speed they travel. There is a bit of flexability but it's harder to time if you wait right till the end to move the remote.
