Im thinking of picking this up too, but these games do give me the scares, its not the gore and such, but the frights and jumps, and the "knife in shower" eee eee eee music cues hehe.

Maybe ill tough it out, i dont want to miss out on great things

Just put yourself through the scares, you'll love it! Best it can do is make you jump and think a little

to get ready for DeadSpace2, I started the first game again on hard, and it's bloody amazing again ! I hadn't played since I finished it on release, I'm now at chapter 5 and I can't stop playing.

About to start playing this but is hard mode a good way to start? I wanna a challenging scary experience but not too much frustration. Is normal mode too easy and does that spoil the atmosphere due to lack of threat?

I play all games on hard (where possible), but I found this to be too difficult. I suggest medium and then once you are used to it move onto hard on your next playthrough.
                Kept you waiting, huh?

Normal mode isnt very hard, but it dosent ruin the atmosphere becuase the scares are all about the moments where things pop out and make you jump, you never know whats lurking around the next corner.

All that stuff is the same on any difficulty

I didnt find the game that hard on any diffculty though, I actualy got the achievment for using only the Plasma cutter(pistol) on my playthrough of the hardest difficulty, its one of those games thats more about the experience than the challenge Id say, though I do have to say that on the subject of difficulty the sequel does seem to be alot harder from the demo, so maybe the developers didnt like that this one was easy.

Well, going by how I got through it on my first play through the other week, I reckon you've got a maximum of about 4 hours of play left, so you'll probably be fine in finishing it in time. I hope you're enjoying it as much as I did! The best truly 'atmospheric' game for me since Resident Evil 4 and Realms of the Haunting, one of my all time favourite games ever for atmosphere and awesome sound design.

What a fantastic game. Just finished this now and loved the ending. Dead Space, yes, it does the Doom 3 thing and there are things in it that I almost feel I should be critical of (monster closets, repeating monsters etc) and yet it did it all so well I really can't be negative about it. What it did really well actually was to get as much variety as possible in some quite limited locations and a few familiar tricks. It got much more out of its ingredients than most do.

And it definitely got the tension perfectly. Chapter 10 in particular was almost unbearable for me at points.

I found the last chapter rather easy and I am so glad I did. By that stage, I had sort of felt I had earned my ending. I wanted to just enjoy the climax, not get frustrated by it (Metroid Prime, I'm looking in your direction). And I did enjoy it. Nice to see they saw the importance of a good

boss fight, as easy as it was.

And a simple, yet I felt pretty great end sequence.

I really can't fault the game. Well, except for some mouse weirdness on the PC version. Half tempted to go straight on to 2 but I may wait to have a break between them. Or play the iOS one.

One of the few games that consistently made me jump. I want to go back to it.

I picked this up again at the weekend to get ready for DeadSpace 2 (which I probably won't get right away) and enjoying a lot more this time than than I did on my first play which was abandoned at chapter 4.

On chapter 10 now, which going by Dogg above me is probably a good place to take a break! The atmosphere has been great throughout and I love the mega-high production values, however I have found that it repeats the same tricks too often so the scares were mostly limited to earlier on in the game. Thankfully I'm finding the action really engaging so it hasn't been a chore (minus the gun turret section).

I'm enjoying it a lot, but I'll pleased when I hit the end.

Really tempted to actually buy the sequel upon release – not something I do often. This is one of the few games in the last couple of years that lived up to the hype. The other one was Batman: AA.

Just finished it, may well be the best £10 I ever spent on a game! Though I found the structure a little repetitive I really enjoyed it the whole way through. The feel of the game definately changed as I progressed - I found it really on edge for the first half but once I got confident with the combat I started to look forward to the action sequences. Only enemy that really kept me tense was that regen monster that crops up every now and then, that thing was nasty.

Will give it a few weeks before I jump into the sequel I think!
