I love the really laboured breathing as well, really adds to the whole effect of being near death.
I do dislike the complete lack of health though when you start again ater dying.
Granted it's a nice idea but if I've just been killed a big bast monster I'm not going to be able to beat him again because you gave me no health to try & do it with
Also on Medium I'm finding it increasingly hard to find health scattered around...pulse rifle rounds no worries some desperatley needed health??? no chance

If you kill some Necromorphs they sometimes drop health packs. One of the

      chest ripper things

dropped a medium one for me last night on chapter 3.

Guess I'll just have to keep a better eye out then for the dropped packs...must be missing them somewhere then

Dunno if anyone else has noticed but Isaac also looks up, down, left and right as you browse the inventory.

I'd say so for sure. You feel lonely like you do in Metroid Prime which is ultra tech, it really adds to the already **** scary atmosphere.

Chapter 3 now and totally loving it. Had a little issue with difficulty (went for Hard on recommendation and have been struggling, so restarted mid-chapter 2), but other than that its amazing.

I'm on chapter 8 now. God i love this game, its so fun to play and the atmosphere is incredible. Its a shame that some people will be missing out on the surround sound goodness.

I'm still finding the game really easy. I still haven't had any trouble with ammo & health packs etc. In fact i even tempted fate a bit as i sold everything bar my plasma cutter and 25 rounds of plasma. I then spent everything on nodes, fully upgraded my rig, plasma cutter and telekinesis. Even then i managed to find alot of stuff afterwards.

I guess its because i never follow the path the game tells me to. If the arrow or lightline is telling me to go somewhere, i go out of my way to explore all the other areas first for loot and enemies. I think i gained the level 4 rig sooner than i should have. I do prefer to play this way, i love exploring the ship and seeing the new variations of enemies.

I'm so glad that this game has Trophies, probably the first retail game i've played to have them.

Just wondering does anyone know how many levels does the Rig go up to? I'm hoping for at least 6.

Yeah it is not too difficult but it is just that sense of panic you get when you're attacked by multiple enemies. It's like "OH ****, what do I do?!" and before you know it the enemies are upon you. No? Just me then

I was panicking like hell on chapter 5 when you face the

                regenerator

for the 2nd time. I lost all sense of rationality and just started spraying the pulse rifle everywhere!

So i watched the animated film earlier. I think i will just leave it at that.

Ooo I got the Blu-Ray today. Does it add anything to the story of the game?

Not really. Just wish it wasn't associated with it. The animation the dialogue, characters and script are all shockingly bad.

The gore is rediculously over the top. I'm all for gore don't get me wrong, but you don't really need to see all that, soooo often.

Ah well, I really enjoyed the animated comics. They actually made me look forward to the game even more.

The comics are fantastic. I just wish the same effort went into the film. Its not like it was a hard thing to accomplish.

Just to reiterate Hard is staggeringly hard. I'm more terrified of how stupidly over the top Insane must be than anything in the game so far - if you have to beat that to get the trophy, eh, fat chance of me doing it without the PS3 cheat suit or something. Basic Necromorphs take at least three or four direct hits to sever a limb, and that's if you're aiming properly/you have the cutter switched to the right mode. Little to no money, health or ammo, either - I've already had to run away a few times (although that, too, is next to impossible in most places).

I like it, though it is very "videogame" and far from perfect. To anyone who says it's nothing like Doom 3 - uh, are we playing the same game? Just because enemies burst out of the walls or ceiling doesn't make them any less of a monster cupboard. The cues, the level design... nine times out of ten, you're funneled into a corridor, one pops up, surprise, surprise, there's another one behind you... not to mention dodgy AI routines, the stupid Unreal 3 physics, missing FX, floaty corpses, bodies getting jammed through walls... add to that blatant cheating, where you can't dismember corpses if the game doesn't want you to... basically if you think it's ten out of ten polished you must really have wanted Event Horizon: The Videogame.

At the same time it is very impressive. It may be a shameless mashup of Event Horizon, System Shock, F.E.A.R., Resi 4, Doom 3 and god knows how many others but it does do it really, really well in places. I want to struggle on as far as I can. The difficulty increases the fear factor to some degree, too... it's a fairly decent System Shock 2 ripoff and with the body shock aspect on top of that it does have a really vicious, bloody, sweaty appeal all its own. Like the combat in Siren PS3 - this is how people really would fight for their lives against some ghastly B-movie race of alien zombie parasites or whatever. Some of the death scenes are genuinely horrific.

Enjoying it, and I'd recommend it, but it is certainly a bit too hardcore at the higher settings and it's really not the work of genius some people are saying. Damn good first shot at the genre though.

The game has it shortcomings but they are very minor, they haven't stop me enjoying the game immensely. It is one of the best games I have played this year, genuinely stunning.....genius infact

I guess that Doom "monster cupboard" comment was aimed at me as I commented on that earlier in the thread. I haven't encountered a monster every corridor I have been in or they haven't popped out every vent I have been near. You do get occasional visual or audio cue, prompting you to expect a "jumpy" moment but a monster doesn't jump out everytime, sometimes it is just to build the atmosphere and tension.

What if you haven't seen or heard of Event Horizon and think its a "OMG 10/10" game (which no-one has said)?! Yeah, you could be right, maybe we are playing different games?!

Glad to know you're still enjoying the game though

                                Omg 100/10!

Seriously though, this game is genius. In my opinion of course. Probably the best/most polished game I've played all year.

The part where that tentacle thing grabs you and drags you down the corridor and you have you aim at it's weak spot stunning.

Glad to see that you're still enjoying it despite the complaints.
