I;ve been playing this for about a week now, and I have to say I think the melee combat is terrible, and it never is more stark than in the Crucible. There just never seems to be any consistency. Say for example I'bve put an enemy down and I walk over to apply a finishing move only to find that that instead I just repeatedly kick the character. On other occasions the finishing move works, but it's incredibly frustrating.

I was hoping for something abit more refined, but at it's heart it is nothing more than button mashing and pretty poor at that.

Tell me about it, I know exactly what you mean.

Gotta say (along with gow2) one of the most disappointing titles of the year for me, got to Bloodstone, told I need to get another 11k+ renown or whatever it is and switched it off. I won't be going back.

It's just so so boring, where's the actual game...? It's all go here, fight a few ppl, pick this up etc etc repeat fade. No puzzles or actual challenge imo.

Thing is, I love the game world and the audio is wonderful but what happened to the game??!?!?!?

And how this got released in the state it's in is beyond me, it's so in need of a few more months polish, just lots of annoying glitches and suchlike. The 'perks' of being first party I suppose.

As I said in the gow2 thread, I know I'm in the minority but really disappointed by this.

      Shame...

It's the best game on the 360 you lunatics. Maybe I was just fortunate but I didn't run across a single bug or glitch during my playthrough and my only criticism is the boring and over-hyped co-op mode. The single player game is a masterpiece, so bursting with love, charm, humour and imagination.

This is exactly how I feel so far. Fable 2 clearly has a lot of love poured into it, but I have no interest in exploring it. As another poster said, it's so clearly "a game" that I just find it off-putting. Which is strange, as there are plenty of other games that are no more realistic than this.

I tend to wonder if it's because it wears its game mechanics on its sleeve. Constant +'s and -'s flashing up, and repeating voice samples. It feels like I'm a cog in a clockwork mouse. There is no fluidity. No surprise. Just the "tick tick tick" of Peter Molyneux's brain laid bare inside my 360.

Mm, much as I adored the game the ending was indeed somewhat of an anticlimax.

Well my copy is under the tree now. I loved the first so am hoping that this doesn't disappoint. I'm only reading the positive posts in the meantime

There is also the fact that besides LBP this is the only game that has captured my attention in the last few months. And as I can't/won't afford a PS3...

Apparently they are going to end the story of Fable 2 using the DLC. I think Molyneux said that he couldn't wait for Fable 3 to end it.

I don't know how people find this game boring. If your complaining or getting paused on getting Renown, the game is telling you to get out there and explore to do other things. I never had that problem in the first place as i was doing that from the off.

I don't feel like there's alot to do though. So I couldn't be bothered "exploring". Which is hard to do anyway since it's hardly a massive open world game. Not alot to see or do I think when compared with the likes of Fallout 3.

I found myself spending ages just mooching around Bowerstone, trying different outfits, choosing the fittest NPC and wooing her to marry me and just uncovering stuff. There's loads to find if you explore a little

such as a diary of your dead sister

                            .

To be fair there's a fair bit of exploring to be done in Fable 2 as, despite Albion being a small world, it's full of cleverly hidden nooks, crannies and easy-to-miss trails off the beaten path. And comparing Fable 2's size to Fallout 3's is unfair because, like Oblivion, Fallout 3 uses so-called 'build by numbers' code to generate it's caves, vaults and buildings which is why they usually all look the same.

After a few more hours on this I have, I admit, started to like it a lot more. It is, in a sense, very reliant on the player being willing to make their own entertainment, but after investing well over 10-15 hours into it now, it has started to pay me back. The mechanics have switched from being a bit irritating, to being quite charming. The world has stopped feeling so claustrophobic. The terrible main plot has ceased to be so important. The combat has also improved a lot.

So yes. It's starting to win me over. But not since KOTOR have I had to put so much into a game before it started paying me back...
