    [Wii] Lets Tap

After seeing the videos i has mixed feelings on this one, but decided to plump for it anyway.

I have only gone through the tutorial and played 2 of the modes but just had to post impressions of how good this game is. The development team is one i have not heard of before (Prope) but they bring a fresh idea and add style and it just works.

So far i have only had the chance to play on 1 player and even that is extremely fun, which you can't normally say about these type of games.

Tap Runner has you running down a course, to begin with the levels are just a straight bolt to the end, but they soon start adding different routes, jumps, blocks that fall and crush you and tightropes. In this mode you use a 1 handed tap with a quick tap rhythm. If you tap to fast then you slow down or jump, as the tutorial shows its important to get the rhythm. To jump you do a 2 handed tap. The controls work extremely well in this mode and there is loads of levels to work your way through. Each level you can gain medals, depending on how fast you finish, so even in 1 player there is reason to go back and beat your best times.

Tap Rhythm is the other mode i have played. This gameplay and setup is Donkey Konga, it is identical apart from styling and IMO much better tunes. The tunes here are crazy Japanese Jpop tracks and remixes. again you have a good amount of tracks, i think it was somehwere about 30 full length tracks. Here you gain gradings instead of medals. Pass all available tracks and it unlocks the next one.

However this game oozes style, the simple presentation suits the game down to the ground, this is 100% the type of game i would expect from Nintendo, not a Sega team. Prope are sure going to be a team to watch in the future. The next game they have in developemnt is a Wiiware title Lets Catch. They could be onto something with these simple well designed ideas.

Loving the look of this. Any language barrier problems at all? Thinking of importing it myself as a pal release mabe far off and worried that they will replace cool J-pop with
the usual rubbish tunes we get over here

There is a lot of text during the tutorial. However this can be bypassed if you just look and copy what the onscreen hand is doing. Other than that everything is a hybrid English/Japanese mix, so its easy enough to get to where you want to go.

How many mini-games are in this mate? Been following this for ages and am going to buy it after xmas but it seems all that is in it is the visualizer, rhythm action game, one where you move blocks and tap runner. Is that all there is to it?

          The games are

Tap Runner - appears to have 16 levels maybe more on another page
Rhythm Tap - again appears to have 16 songs though more maybe unlocked later on

Any news of this getting a western release?

BTW Prope is a new studio founded by Yuji Naka (of Sonic Team fame)

I got the game for Christmas today. I only did Rhythm Tap and boy is that tiring. Me and my bro will try Multiplayer later on :3

So far it is definitely a unique game, just have to get used to all of the tapping, lol.

just picked this up today, its a big box for a mid price release which gives a hint at the slightness of the disc content.

Mainly tried the running game so far and its going to need a bit of patience, its quite hard to tap gently and fast to make your guy run without hitting too hard and making him jump. I only tried it with the supplied boxes which do vibrate quite a bit, it may work better with a heavy book. experimenting with where I tapped help and I was much quicker hitting the edges of the box rather than the top where the wiimote sits.

Had a very quick go on the 'fireworks visualiser' but it takes longer to type that than the duration of the fun I had, got bored super quickly with that.

Can see the running game being fun with 4 people in the room but I need to experiment with what I play on.

Play.com sent me an email today which included this for sale with 2 "Tap Boxes" for £17.99...seriously tempting!

I'd discount the boxes in terms of cash value, they are just that, 2 cardboard boxes of roughly the size something like Norton Antivirus comes in, maybe a little thinner though.

Ahah I see. Quick question to anyone that owns it...do you *have* to use boxes? I'm really fed up of storing peripherals around the bloody house and if I could just put them on the table and tap the table it'd be ace...but I'd imagine that wouldn't work in 2 player mode?

I really don't want a cardboard box accessory stored away somewhere as well!

No, you can use any boxes (cereal or tissues, for example) or even DVD cases work fine.

i just can't get on with this, the supplied boxes are quite bouncy and I'm finding it really hard to make my chap just run and not jump, tried using a bigger hardback book and that lacks sensitivity making running easy but jumping hard (and my fingers hurt !)

anything too small like a dvd case is difficult to balance the controller on.

on the verge of outing this.

Yep just played half an hour. Pretty underwhelming. I'm playing the shooter at the moment and its pretty easy and a bit boring.

Running was annoying as if you tap just a biiiiit heavier than the last time you do an almighty jump. May fiddle with settings later if I can be bothered.

Imagine playing a game with one button that can be pressed soft or hard and this is it. Except a button would be more reliable.

Just got this game, and well got some trouble with the tap runner game. The remote bounces/moves around on the box, making it really hard to control the runner. Anyone try to make a fence/slot on the box, to prevent it from moving around?
