[DS]Elebits: The Adventures of Kai and Zero

Looking at the videos and screen shots of the new Eelbits game, i thought they had changed it into Pokemon. Thankfully that is not the case, even on the small screens the game still has all the charm and substance that the Wii version has. I would even go as far to say it has ironed out some of the problems of the Wii version.

The game starts with an opening video, explaining where the game left off on the Wii. The charming voice acting very much keeps it in the flavour of the Wii version. The graphics are not great but they can be overlooked as the gameplay is superb.

The game sees you taking control of Kai and Zero, though Zero ends up taking a back seat to the other Omegas. Omegas are creatures that you catch to help you solve the puzzles in the area you end up in. The game starts up with you getting sent to another timezone on a talking bus and in order to get back to the present time, you need to gather elebits to power the bus.

Like the Wii version you have different colour elebits worth different amounts of power. Collect enough to power the bus and game completed, or is it? Well when you are about to get home the game takes a turn that has you searching different areas for Omegas and Elebits.

The gameplay is quite straight forward, get to an area catch some Elebits goto the area on the map where the Omega is hiding, solve the puzzle to release it and onto the next area.

To catch Elebits you tap them, you are given roughly 4 seconds to then tap as many others in the area to cause a chain. If you go over this time they break free and you can't catch any Elebits for a short period.

However i have had so much fun playing this, it has really taken me in. The puzzles start out very simple, however soon start to go up in difficulty which will have you useing several Omegas. I also forgot to mention you can use the power from the Elebits to level up your Omegas, or to use their special ability, so that gives you more insentive to collect Elebits. Doors are locked with power, as are lifts and some other things giving further need for collecting.

I am really impressed with this, it seams like the platform/adventure game that we have needed since New Super Mario Brothers was released and completed all those months ago.

From what i have played so far the game is well worth a look. The areas are large and you never feel like your struggling for what to do or where to go.

I played the demo of this recently and thought it was really good. Reminds me a lot of Zelda.

I also like the way they've managed to squeeze in more of those amazing illustrations that made Elebits and Dewey's Adventure so bewitching. Not sure what the artist's name is but Konami need to use him/her more often.

Agreed, i would pay huge amounts for an artbook for elebits with those beautiful illustrations.

Yeah i agree it does have aspects of Zelda about the gameplay. It so far seams like it could be quite lengthy quest. I have only got to the end of area 2 and i have been playing well over 2 hours. saying that i think i have been far too consumed with catching Elebits rather than doing the quest lol.

I got stuck after getting the ice omega, i went to the west & used the ice platforms & messed with the gates till i got over the water to where the mark was on the map but all that was there was a statue with a platform you can pull but i have no idea what it does, any ideas on what i should be doing?

I enjoyed the demo version a few weeks ago. I'll probably wait until it's a bit cheaper and pick it up.

Yep load a rock onto the platform to smash the statue.

I am totally stuck later on, the puzzles get a lot harder. Im in a mine which has 3 interlinking areas. This is very much like a Zelda dungeon puzzle. I just can't work out how to get to the area of the main dungeon i need to be at.

Konami released a code to get "Big Red"

                モード選択の“おまけ”内にある“ついかオメガはいしん”を選択して、続いて“データじゅしん”を選び、“ ↑L→YRA←B↓X”
Select "おまけ", then "ついかオメガはいしん", then "データじゅしん" and press ↑L→YRA←B↓X to get Big Red.
