not sure about the dreadnought. but the scouts are superb. Personally I like building bases too, as far as Company of Heroes goes, the new game Tales of Valour out next month has a similiar non-base building theme if the videos of it are anything to go on.

For my squad loadout I've not been using Cyrus at all, I stick with Devastator's, assault and tactical marines.

I've found Assault marines to be terrible up until Terminator armour. They just get there arses handed to them all the time.

My first suit of terminator armour went to Thaddeus. The next to Tarkus, then to my FC

My End game squad consisted of Everyone in terminator armour with an assault cannon dreadnought.

I was using The scouts all the time instead of the Assault marines

Sneak in and place a gun turret, or throw a det pack in.

I think i remember someone saying Det packs take out carnifaxes in one go as well. I haven't tried that though.

Avatar of Khaine is a bastard. IT took me forever to take him down, The devastator marines did most of the damage as well. Its actually harder than the end game level.

When you get the assault cannon for the Dreadnought he has a special ability like the video intro for the first one, where the dreadnought rapes the hill with his cannon. Well he can do that. Its awesome to mow down a few rows of approaching enemies.

The IRon HAlo is great as well, it gives your Force COmmander a shield which absorbs damage with the energy bar rather than your health bar. plus i think it protects against knockdowns.

CBA with multi on this, might play some Co-op though, can't wait for the expansions.

I love company of heroes, but im just not feeling the new expansion. I hope there is a demo, because im not convinced.

A massive failure on Relics part is lack of multiplayer maps as well.

I always have my assault marines at the front as they can very quickly wipe out large groups of small units or suppress larger units with their jump and then immediately afterwards they're completely invincible plus they have enough energy for an explosive punch on anything that's still standing. By the time they are no longer invincible and starting to take damage, other units are starting to get their shots in and the assault marines are ready for another jump. I assume they lose their jump packs when they get their terminator armour?

Obviously the game is quite well designed to give people the choice in playing the game the way they want.

Definitely agree with you on the Iron Halo as it makes the Force Commander so tough, I love being able to just march straight up to enemies and have him beat the crap out of them even when my other troops have had to pull back to get their health.

Aside from some of the obvious errors (such as upgrading a dreadnought to a venerable version unless it's a different person) I am impressed that the developer has done some digging to tie in portions of the various different books. The Tyranids are mentioned as being a splinter group from Tarsis - this is the subject of the second Ultramarine book where the Ultramarines and the Mortifactors (a chapter founded from the Ultramarines) defended Tarsis Ultra against Tyranids.

Yes, but they get teleport i think.

The problem is they need too much looking after, you need to constantly watch them or have the FC's health pack ready to click all the time.

I have the dreadnought now but he seems to be complete and utter rubbish...he started off by getting mauled by the smallest of the Tyranid creatures which the rest of the marines can handle with ease. I tried to get it to shoot the enemy base but it seemed to view my commands as a suggestion and ignored them completely, finally when it chose to open fire on the enemy base I activated its asault fire mode only for the dreadnought to self detonate?! It had a reasonable chunk of health and nothing was even around to fire on it.

Its inability to hold any decent accessories as well as another squad needing to take a slot to repair its rubbish armour which doesn't seem to have any regeneration doesn't help either. Am I missing something with it, do you have to level it up before it's actually any use? It seems to have a tiny amount of health compared to the Space Marines which is just daft.

edit: Tried again and lost my first defence mission, the dreadnought chose once again to completely ignore my commands and happily watched all my squads being slaughtered. He eventually decided to do some shooting but couldn't even take out one Ork squad before he died.

Had another go at the angel gate level and powered through it no problem this time, I really think the game should give some indication as to what difficulty level the battle is going to be.

this turned up in the post today. played the first few levels and I'm not really feeling it. It's probably quite fun, but when I play an rts, I play it for the base building... the game also just doesn't feel quite right either, not as heavy or something.

I'm probably a bit put off that it's so different to the original. Will persist though it will probably be set aside when either dragon age or borderlands turn up.

                    Thats what I thought.

As a game on its own its excellent but the original Dawn of War is always sitting at the back of my mind, reminding me that I can't build buildings anymore and reminding me that I can't build Flash Gitz with the Orks...

None the less, the campaign is awesome and I think to enjoy you have to treat it as its own game, not as a sequel to one of the greatest RTS's ever.
