It was out tuesday - but maybe just for those who preordered on steam?
It reminds me of labyrinth mixed with dark crystal and some weird french adventure game from back when. I'm getting more used to the melee despite the clunky lock on mechanic and it's satisfyingly meaty, if a little obtrusive. The weapons are as weird as the crazy cast of weird ppl and creatures!
It's on Direct 2 Drive as well, and I believe you get a steam code when buying it from D2D Still debating if I should get it or not, might wait for a Steam sale.
The unusual art style caught my eye but I was under the impression this was some kind of RPG. Now I hear it's a first-person fighter. So I'm guessing it's a little like Breakdown? I'll probably get this to see what it's all about but not until I've cleared some of my backlog.
At a time when most big-name titles only dare to introduce one or two innovations at once... playing this is like a punch in the face. The art style is luxuriously anti-mainstream. The storyline is highly original and compelling. And the gameplay mechanics are unlike anything else, but work really damn well.
Played with headphones, it's like being thrown headfirst into a universe of weirdness. The use of first-person is scarily effective.... This game is actually disquieting in a way a lot of "horror" games never manage, because you truly don't know what bizarre stuff will be coming towards you next. The pace is pretty relentless... this is no RPG... It owes a lot to Valve's own Half Life games in that regard. It's also surprisingly hard on the default setting (or maybe I just suck ), which only adds to face-slapping surprise of the whole experience.
And it's all done with a level of polish and attention to detail I'd never have expected from an 'indie' title.
so yeah, I'd heartily recommend this... particularly if your gaming diet has been feeling a little bland recently.
Ive no idea what the hell is going on in the story and the dialogue seems to have been writen by someone whos on drugs.. A scene with the main character describing some of the enimies in the game goes a bit like this..... "The corwits are not slaves to reality, look that one is headbuting things, thats all he wants to do, there was a corwit who peed on her self and staved to death, thats just what she had to do, there was another one he ate people, thats just what he had to do" .....
As for the game it plays well, but I had to stop before i too peed myself.... from laughing at this game I mean.
so I just finished this, and I was totally gripped from start to finish. I can't remember the last game I played which took such an obvious delight in creating a world and dropping the player inside it.
Zenozoik is a breath of fresh air... a fantasy world without a whiff of swords, orcs, chests, or "sealed evil in a can" (thank god... )
You can really feel the love that's gone into this game. There's not a single wall or ceiling which hasn't been lavished with barmy details.
Also, the characters are very nearly up there with Killer 7's cast in the 'unforgettable' stakes.
so, if you were even vaguely tempted by the look of this, I'd say grab it.
I can't guarantee you'll love the combat system... but I can guarantee a very unforgettable trip.
It's the sort of game that makes you want to disregard any flaws it has because the overall experience is so fresh and inventive.
whatever ACE team does next will be an instabuy for me
Just thought I would echo all the love for this game. It's great, and it's a shame more people aren't playing it, seeing as it can be had for pennies now.
It was fiddly to control in places, but it was still really satisfying to play. The hand to hand combat sections work much better than you'd expect.

Definitely. Really bizarre cast and world they've created, but I loved it.
