    UFC 09 Undisputed Demo

well the first bash at this thread got binned as we managed to get hold of the demo in 'bad' way (despite several threads where open discussion of downloading tv progs are tolerated),

demo is now up officially on XBL and its a top notch title, I wacked a pre-order in on the strength of the demo, I'm a big Fight Night fan but don't like wrestling games, this veers more towards FN for me but there is a pretty technical ground and subsmisson system in there.

game looks really good too with very solid fighter and the blows really hitting home.

pretty polished game that I thought was going to be ropey but looks like it may have turned out ok.

The grapple/ground system is really deep and will confuse the hell out of people when they first play it, but once you learn what your doing it is amazing fun.

The animations and hit detection are brilliant as well, for example if you step into medium distance strike so that it only hits at close range the animations actually change rather then just allowing the strike to hit.

I urge people to put the game in one of the harder modes because if you play the lowest AI the game feels like a very simple beat em up.

If definitely a first day purchase for me.

I'd recommend a good half hour on the demo with the pretty thorough tutorial mode then stick it straight in at medium skill level or above, on the default beginner level you can just give your opponent a shoeing to the head and knock him out in 30 seconds, plus they attempt no ground game.

The game does a great job of presenting the atmosphere of a UFC bought with the whole thingy oozing an EA like level of presentation.

Had a result too as if you pre-order from GAME they give you a couple of extra characters, plus they lock the pre-order price, this has gone up from £35 to £40 in last day !

Yeah this game is amazing, love the ring commentary and replay highlights, it's really a brutal and intense atmosphere when you get them stunned and you gear up for a knockout! I managed to get different knockouts and tko's in the last two matches. Am putting it into high difficulty setting and trying different things.

Was thinking of getting FNR4 but it's going to feel pretty much limited when compared to this beauty eh?

Also the body marking is really good as well, you can open up some nasty cuts or leave some lovely bruising if you go for body kicks.

I just tried this on experienced and got my arse handed to me but it was still damn good fun. Looks absolutely stunning too, I might actually buy this.

just spent some time learning about moving round on the floor (transitioning) then had some fights as Rua as opposed to Chuck, the difference in style of fighter is amazing and had a totally different experience than being Liddel.

i'm sure FN4 will be good but agree it could be limited compared to this stunna, can't wait to be Brock Lesnar, shame Fedor or Arlofsky aren't in the UFC

I haven't got the ground game properly understood yet but I guess it is all about the transitions? I got absolutely nailed by Rua when he got on top of me, found it hard to block and do any transitions whatsover.

However I just won as Liddell, tried staying on me feet as long as possible and wriggling out of those ground manouvres of his and got a sweet KO in the 3rd round.

Might try playing as Rua now and see how the styles differ.

If your not familiar with MMA/UFC fighting the ground positions/guards will take you a bit of time to learn.

This demo is a bit of a stalemate when it comes to the submission side of things. Rua is good on the ground but Chuck has very good ground defense making a submission hard to get.

From what I've seen so far it really looks like they have nailed the different styles of fighting and their pros and cons.

I've not been so excited about a game in a long while can't wait for the full release.

Yeah just played as Rua and I had to be far more defensive on my feet and really look for those openings. I got KO'd in the first match but just won the second one now. I couldn't take Liddell down to the ground though. How do I do that? Do I have to get into a clinch first?

Hold the Left Trigger and press the right stick towards your opponent.

I find you have to time it well through a counter though.

The easiest way to get him down is to wait for him to throw a strike and shoot for the takedown just before the strike lands. This way acts as a counter and will take him straight down.

The other way is to work his legs with kicks in the first round and then if you go for a take down it will have more chance.

Me again, well I love this demo and seem to have gotten to grips with the ground game now. I have been playing it for the past hour or so now, definitely purchasing the full game
