    DW Gundam 2

Had a few hours with it now and im enjoying, again not a game thats going to turn Koei's hack'n'slash katers into fans. What we have here is more of same but speed and improved onthe last outing much like they always are.

    Key Changes

Enemies on screen have doubled in number, somtimes you can not see through the enemies there's that many.

Enemy A.I. been improved abit from DWG1's stand an hit me, front suits won't hesitate to have a swing and moblie suit at the back will now shoot through the crowd causing tick damage to your armour.

SP attacks are know split in to 3 types from DWG1's 3 bar system, you have a different SP for ground, Air and Double team. The more Bars you use the long the SP lasts(RX79 has ground SP of Spear Thrusts, Air SP of twin Bazookas, and Double team SP of Swinging Mace)

Thrusts Attacks can now be continued until you run out of thrust, instead of DWG1's 1 chance.

Smash Attack - a new ability to Koei's game, let you charge up a defense breaking attack, key for defeating Commanders and Big Enemies.

Duel clashing have change from button mashing and enemy Stun and Att up reward are replaced with QTE with a auto combo followed up with a stun, no attack up rewards.

Pilot EXP remains but Moblie Suit Exp is replaced with random body parts, collected at the end of battle. To gain most of the unlockable suits you will have to defeat and collect body parts to put them together. Pilot skill remain how there were, gain new ones as you level up depending on the suit your piloting(e.g. RX79 lets you learn 4 types of skill). Warrior Orochi's method of rewarding players for failing a mission is also brought in so you can take home some body parts and Exp.

Game is alot faster, thrusting is very quick now compared to last time making it worth using and momentum is know carried over when you stop thrusting unlike the brick stop of DWG1, overall the games been speed up and auto shooting massively improved and useful.

Games mode are split the same as last time, Official mode with you playing the leads from UC timeline(not sure if you can open more up like last time as you start with Amuro, Kamille, Char and Judo) and Original mode renamed Misson mode where all the other pilots are kept(Wing,Seed,TurnA,F91, etc, etc) and new suits unlocked from parts collected(i think) also some sort of "Friendship" metre between pilots that effects skills when you fight with or against them, not seen enough to see if it effect gameplay.

Sound is the same music as least time so now original show tunes the japanese get and the japanese voices are missing to which was an option last time round. Ingame CS seems seem to have been cut now, there was only few CGI CS in official mode which is very disppointing as it was great little thing DWG1 did, hopefully when i get around to playing mission mode the crazy interactions between pilots inthe CS will remain(like Master Asia trying to make Heero a hot blooded pilot)

The thing with DWG is that it is so much better to play than its other brethren. I picked it up yesterday too and i'm enjoying it throughly and i loved the first game.

I didn't really get on with the first DW Gundam game, but I'm not entirely sure why. This is a definite improvement, though, and I've enjoyed what I've played so far. The faster pace really helps. I know nothing about Gundam so the story is completely baffling, but I like the bits where the big robots hit each other.

I think I still prefer the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors games to the Gundam ones, though.

As far as DW games go this is for me the best they done gameplay wise, DW6 was far to automatic but had the speed and fluidity right.

How far have you guys got into Mission mode, im playing through has Kira and it seems all the fun and cheekyness of the last game been cut and the story makes nosense at all this time, why are they all randomly fighting each other as last time they brought it all together with that Musou Gundam Samurai thing. Also the VA for Kira is so,so wrong in tone and personality(also has bloody Haro churping up every other combo) but at least Strike Freedom is a joy to play with.

Only done one mission on this so far, as I'm trying to 1000G the first game before I start this(Did it on PS3 already) but it does seem a lot faster and smoother.

Anyone fought one of the giant mobile suits yet? Would love to see one of these but alas, I'll have to wait until I've done the first game.

Didn't know there was a thread for this game, I have a question: I liked the first game but didn't really get maximum play time out of it, far from it in fact I think I only completed it with a few characters. Is this game enough of an improvement to warrant a purchase? I've not seen any of the Gundam animes (always wanted to) but I love big robots/mechs and the Gundam designs are great.

It is a an improvement on DWG1, mainly inthe speed and movement which is a vastly imroved to DW6 levels. Having spent nearly 50 hours in game now mainly in mission mode where the meat of the game is, i would say stay away unless you like koei recent DW games(which i do) and being a fan of Gundam would help with the pilot rivalries(like Heero vs Zechs, Kira/Athran vs Luna/Shinn), as i said earlier in my posts i thought all the fun and humor of the 1st game had vanished but it still there you just have hunt for it as its all the friendship missions(you can open up Loran crossing dressing options ).

Don't think i'll ever get close to finishing this game.. every one of the 40+ pilots have there thier own main story, Friendship, Alliance, Mecha License mission's as well as randomly produced relationship, Collection, DWG1 stories, mega hard "Extra mode" missions and downloadable missions.

Also noticed on the hard missions the npc's gain access to lvl4 musou attacks which fill the screen with death(like Gundam Wing Zero gets a satellite laser and Nu Gundam gets independant funnels)

I've never played any gundam or battletech games - can anyone tell me a little what this game is like, please?

Is it a good intro for beginners to the genre?

I used to see the big airfix-type models in the toy store when I was a kid and thought they were really cool, but there seem to be surprisingly few giant robots in mainstream videogaming.

It's a Dynasty Warriors game done with big robots, so it's not like Armoured Core or games of that nature ie simulation type games. You have the story modes which follow the various storlines in the Gundam animes (which I've never seen so don't let that put you off) and original modes which have new storylines created just for the game.

I only have the first game so my description is based on that but it mainly involves Choosing a mech suit/big robot piloted by a human and running around destroying hundreds of minor enemies before confronting larger or more skilled boss type mechs. I'm not a fan of the Dynasty Warriors games generally although I do like their settings but rather than the samurai etc ancient setting in those these Gundam games are based on a futuristic anime scenario.

I would suggest you check out some youtube vids and go from there.
