    Clover [360 - Community Games]

I don't normally take the plunge on this kind of game, but I found the demo to remind me fondly of the old Dizzy games on Spectrum etc, so for 400 points it seemed well worth it.

It really is a beautiful game to look at, that much is obvious. The ambient piano score is pretty too, though after a while I found it's repetitive nature (which you are probably always gonna get with a game made by the community) a bit grating so put a custom soundtrack on instead, you aren't missing much if you do this as there's very little other sound apart from a heartbeat (when you are near "death") and the occasional noises when you speak to people.

You can't die as such, but if you stay in water too long, get captured by guards (for trespassing etc) or killed (by one of the numerous killer hedgehogs or the occasional crab) you just start somewhere else, keeping all your inventory.

Already stuck mind you Got to the second little village and have to speak to the arms dealer about gunpowder but he won't speak to me cos I'm a kid. I've been given a hint "remember he's as blind as a mole up close" but unless I'm being daft, I can't see how that helps me since I can't change my appearance and I can't talk to him from distance. I've got every item that I can see and none of them seem to help me.

Controls wise it's very simple, move, interact, jump, run...that's it.

It really is pretty much a next-gen (visually, not gameplay wise) Dizzy game, which is fun. It's kinda nice to play a game where there are no achievements for a change as well, cheaper than almost all other Arcade games yet (seemingly) deeper as well.

I'd say try the demo, if the ambience, visuals and old school Dizzy-esque gameplay is for you, it's worth the money.

Oh and if anyone knows what I'm missing (it's always something simple) then please do tell me!

I've seen the trailer for this, have they fixed the utterly dire walk cycle for the final thing? I just can't take it seriously with such poor animation.

If he's blind as a mole up close, can you talk to him from closer than you were, rather than further away?

I'm not sure what you mean by the walk cycle to be honest mate. They kinda look like South Park characters most of the time.

I may well try that though, although I did try at random levels of closeness already

It's just nice to play a game which is what it is, no achievements to chase, no multiplayer to distract, just an old school Dizzy adventure game!

Nobody else even tried this then? Damn, I'm stuck fast and googling doesn't help!

Probably nobody cares but the soundtrack to this is now available free!

Simple piano stuff but pretty all the same.

Seeing just myself and TTK reply in this thread to the game just shows how ****ty MS are at promoting their "Indie Games" section really...

I tried it (as I do a lot of the Indie games).

I just didn't like it. I found the Dizzy style of gameplay 'okay' back in the day, but it hasn't aged very well imo.
