Had a bash on this last night and amazingly its telling me I'm 25% through already, I'm hoping this is referring to the first act and not the entire game.

I am, however, having some serious issues with Bionic Commando. The grapple hook (once mastered) is fantastic and miles above anything else on offer here. That somebody took the time and effort to create such a wonderful mechanic and then shoehorn it into this mess is probably the biggest problem I have with it. Also I hate the main character, he has some cool little animations from time to time but everything else from his wannabe Snake voice acting to his stupid dialogue just makes me think he is a complete dick. This is the first time I've had a problem with motion blur too, it makes a below average looking game even more ugly. I think some tougher decisions should have been made instead of the amount of compromise that I can only assume was forced upon it.

This has almost won me over today, I'm a sucker for a huge boss battle and after the ridiculously easy

        Jet Boss

, it was very comforting to be confronted by the huge

        Worm Boss.

Enjoying the large enemy battles too, my method tends to be take one out and then use that one to smash the crap out of his mate (not seen the way to pull people out of them). The slow cat and mouse pace is fun as well as the hectic swinging when ammo has run out. I say its almost won me over, but the instant death walls sap my spirit too often, especially when you're trying to evade some over powered enemies and you get killed by a wall. Insane idea that.

Oh yeah, the music at times is amazing and the enemy torchlight is a nice touch too. Flying humans in the air like kites is strangely addictive.

Pretty near the end I think so will deffinetly see it through, unless there is a half hour mine swing marathon coming up through radiation above water. . .there is isn't there >-<

I was confused on how to pull the pilots out on the mechs too. As the game doesn't explain how to do it, you need to grapple they weak point (which are highlighted in a red targetting recticule) and press Y & B when your adrenaline is fully charged.

Ah, so the spin attack doubles up as this too then, I remember them showing it on the tutorial now ... will give that a go, cheers mate!

Spag, if you're warming to it you should definitely give it another playthrough when you're done. You'll be amazed at the skills you've learnt and how you tackle situations again - I preferred my second playthrough (and even 3rd for swinging skill). I looked at levels very differently going through multiple times. There are always swing oportunities when you know what to do, whereas first time round you probably just ran sections. For instance a lot of the cave sections can just be swung through without touching the floor, leaving goons behind before they even knew you were there!

I'm 3/4 through Commando difficulty now, this difficulty is definitely more gruelling as one mistake and you can be put down and it's back to your last checkpoint, you also need greater swinging skills to get the f**k out of there in sticky situations.

I'm really tempted for another playthrough even after this Commando one. Not for the collectibles - screw that! But for the challenge achievement. I've completed them all, but not in one playthrough and I reckon I could.

              I really like this game. It's not a 9 out of 10 but it's a good solid 7.5 IMO.

All people being negative on graphics, gunplay, bionic arm mechanics etc. are just being arsey. When you're totally versed it's a real blast.

Are the visuals on this supposed to be so ropey? The level of aliasing and noticeable slapping on of the blur layer is really nasty.

Or is it that my 360 knackered again?

edit: No response aye? Okay, maybe I'm not doing it right. Let me try again.

                  Which version are you playing?

I noticed the blurring the but don't remember any aliasing problems (360). I thought the blurring might be deliberate, as in a feature as opposed to a hide problems because you barely have to turn to make it appear.

By the end I'd didn't notice the blur as everything was a blur anyway the way I was swinging around like a demon!

Graphics don't maketh the game either - WaW taught me that!

Thanks to a kind member of the forum, i took a chance with this game in the weekend. To tell you the truth, i was not expecting much from all the mixed reviews that went around when this was relesed in July. Ive also never played the original game, and i got confused, when peeps started talking about this game, as i thought it was somemthing along the lines of Captain Commando and the side scroller beat em up (confusion in the name, see ;p).

So when i booted this up, I didn't knwo what to expect. after about 10 mins, i had that feeling in my mind, that this game was gonna be one of those that dragged, and i was finding the controls a bit strange at first. Then the tutorial kicked in and i was like, oh my word, im never gonna get the hang of this stupid arm......... I was stuck on that thing for too long in my opinion.

So as i persevered, i actually started enjoying the game, i was whizzing around the levels like a mad man, and i luved getting that air from tarzaning around the chaotic environment. The game does hold you by the hand throughout and basically tell you what to do and in a way how to do it. It was a bit bewildering how i could only do 'special moves' when the game let your 'remember' how to do it. As i was trying to do some of these techniques that i learnt in the tutorial, but the game didn't allow me to because I had to give it time for my character to remember how to do it. Meh........

Got to agree with a lot of teh comment regarding the water aspect. My Word! My first encounter with it was a small puddle lol........ i acidentally walked onto a puddle which cant have been more that waist level. Next thing i know, my character is drowning and as i watch this purple bar pops up to simulate an energy bar goes down. I was baffled and amused more than anything......... Ok so a voice over from the major/captain or what ever his name is comes on explaining how my arm weighs me down in water....... But a puddle?!

Also this radiation malarky is so annoying, sometimes its not obvious which parts of the environment is radiated and which is not, next thing you know the screen goes crazy and fades to red, because ive gone too high up a building or swung oo close to a blue tinted building (which denotes its radiated). Very perculiar..........

One last gripe i guess, is the loading times.......... I will admit that i hardly died during the first hour (not including training level ) but there are certain sections which loves to kill you at every opportunity. Load screens are painfully long in parts........ Grr.......

But overall, i can look beyond the games short comings, as for the most part its fun to play. I luv soem of the subtle mannerisms the character does, like shouting at enemies or screaming during big jumps and huge swings across the levels......... Ammo is for the most part scarce in my opinion, which leads you to use the environment as your weapon for a lot of encounters with enemies that are not 'grunts'.

I don't really bother with the achievements, as im too busy concentrating on not falling when i am swinging around like a loon....... Not since Assasins Creed have i had so much fun jumping off cliffs and ledges......... The fact that you can fall/jump from any height in this game and not be hurt by it in this game, makes it oh so much more fun!

I have no idea what level im on as it feels like im still playing the first level, but when i checked my progress in the games menu, iwas already att 38%! after a couple of hours, bloody hell, this is gonna be a short game!

Im made up with the game i will admit, as despite its major short comings, im having fun! the fact that I didn't expect much has in a way helped it. It is slightly worrying that i have more fun with this game than i have with Infamous.........

Oh as for the story, i have no real idea whats going on....... But I look forward to gettin back to some more action when i get home

Im really enjoying this still, although i have not had a lot of time on it over the last week. I just finished off the

worm like boss, which was more fun to play against than that 'stupid' Buraq Plane.......... How was i to know i had to home in on the stupid thing with my rocket launcher........... pfft, had re running around like a loon for absolutely ages figuring out what i could hit the bloody thing.

Got to admit, i don't really know what is going on, but my character doesn't half remind me of Snake from Metal Gear, with his moody tone and agressive mannerisms.

In parts of the game, the music really fits the bill, with the army-eque sound, again, like Metal Gear. Don't get me wrong, the game is nothing like Kojima's golden child. But its these nice subtle moments that make the game that bit more fun to play.

I have a feeling im near the end now, although its so much fun whipping the bionic arm out and swinging a car into a load of soldiers, knocking them down like you would do in a bowling alley.......

Anyways, if you don't expect too much from this game, then its quite fun! When you master swinging around like a chimp, it is most satisfying!

As you can tell, i have been pleasantly suprised by this game - Don't you just love it when that happens..........

Excuse the old thread getting awakened, but I have just started playing this and thought I'd share my thoughts.

First of all, I used to love Bionic Commando on my C64, I really rate Capcom and I'm a huge fan of Mike Patton. Despite reading iffy impressions of this game I went in with high hopes.

I have played an hour on two of this so far, and I'm pretty underwhelmed. First thing I noticed upon starting the game was an unacceptable amount of screen tear. No excuse for that in a game like this, especially as the graphics are not that hot in the first place. Some of the characters just look plain funny, and I expected more detail. The design of the main character is really generic as well, looking like a cut price Eddy Gordo with a metal arm. The only thing that makes the character bareable is the aforementioned voice work from Mike Patton, giving the character an edge.

The controls really could do with refining, and so far I'm struggling to remember everything. I get the swinging fine, but the locking on to enemies and attacking them via the arm is akward and cumbersome. The gunplay is basic and feels very last gen.

On top of these fundamental faults, it also has one of my modern gaming pet hates: hidden collectables. Every second game is guilty of this now (COD, Gears of War, Halo, Mirror's edge etc), and mostly it's a horribile cynical way of letting the game makes says that there game offers extra life span and replayability. This game is no exception to that. It feels like an afterthought, chucked in when they realise their game is too short and they have to offer up some incentive, so the punters can get their money's worth.

I will persevere with this game for a bit more, but it is a crushing disapointment. Spiderman does this type of action so much better, and that's hardly a AAA series nowadays.
