    MLB 'The Bigs' 2

downloaded the demo for this on a whim the other day as not really a baseball fan at all and knock me down with a feather its brilliant.

its sort of a NBA Jam, NFL Blitz jazzed up arcade baseball game with OTT batting and fielding.

nice generous demo with 3 innings per team, single or multiplayer and a home run mini game.

went to see release info on amazon and its only ?17.97 for mid-July pre-order, bargain.

could be my surprise hit of the summer as never heard of it and we must have played 10 games or more this weekend of the demo.

I picked up the first game on a whim yonks ago (the asian version was cheap at Play Asia and plays on PAL consoles). Haven't tried the demo of 2 yet but if it's more of the same I'm sure it's great fun.

my Amazon copy of this showed up for the bargain price of £14.96

I'm not a huge baseball fan but the demo sold me on this,I suspect a true fan may view this like a footy fan does FIFA street.

I'm not sure if its a budget release in the states and we are getting it cheap to shift a few, in terms of production values and game modes it doesn't feel budget.

In general this is incredibly slick and great fun, really reminds me of a souped up version of the old Midway games ike NBA Jam

loving the be a legend mode in this, could teach the spastics who designed the UFC and Fight Night menus & training games a lot.

not a hint of a calander or email inbox to manage.

this could be gaming bargain of the year, it just doesn't feel like a budget release, there are hours of play in this, the online works well, the career mode is great, and the local multiplayer is perfect.

i saw it get a 7/10 on teletext today, if you ignore the price I'd say that's fair, if you take it into account I'd be tempted to add 1 or 2.

What the hell is going on?

Every time I bat there's an impossibly vague box in front of me. If I happen to make contact with the ball, it's either a weak as piss grasscutter, or a fielder makes a Legendary Catch to get me out.

Bottom of the second and I'm losing 30-0 lol

I am having no fun at all with this and its going back to the shop...

legends mode appears to mean, everything you hit gets caught or you are run out. although the pitching is ok you eventually give up a run and lose.

played the tutorial game and it didnt help at all....not really sure what the wheelhouse is for...tried only going for pitches aimed within it and got struck out, tried to hit others and missed or was caught every time. the computer completes every legendary catch too. I however do not.

when did 'arcade style' mean infuritating and funless?? ive obviously missed the point of this game drastically.

Maybe give it a crack on easy? After posting on here, I managed to win the next two games 17-11 and 18-12. I still haven't hit a home run (the only one that would have went for one was caught by a bloke running up the wall Donald-O'Connor style and leaping another 10 feet), but got plenty of RBIs. The pitching, its best to aim for max power in one of the bottom corners.

shame to hear you guys not feeling the love for this.

the wheelhouse on pitching indicates where the batter is strongest at hitting, if you get a strike in the wheelhouse area you build your turbo bar up quicker, but are obviously more likely to get hit.

on batting look at your players stats, there is no point trying to smash homers with a weak 2* batter, look at their contact (A button) & power (B button) rating and use appropriately, for the really weak a bunt can be a good option.

its relationship to baseball is like that of Fifa Streets to footy but we're finding this really fun, love the career mode and its seriously competitive in 2 player.

tbh merf I was really enjoying it at the end. I don't think the demo does itself any favours by having all stars fielding, with highlight-reel impossi-catches snatched out of mid air.

I got this because it was cheap and fancied a baseball game.

It's bloody brilliant imho, really fun! I love the pinball mode too! I would say though, as a caveat, I've not played a baseball game in about 5 years, so it's all fresh to me.
