    Toro Lets Party - PS3

Just finished clearing Toro Lets Party imported from Playasia, so thought I'd give a quick review of the game. Theres two versions available the Japanese and Asian version. The Asian version features english text with Japanese narration, so this is the version I'm playing.

The main part of the game takes place in diary mode, with three mini games per page and 10 pages in total. Each mini game starts with a story about Toro meeting someone or getting into a situation and then playing a game to progress through story mode. You can play the mini games in any order and you only need to clear two games to progress through to the next page, which unlocks the next set of games.

The games themselves are very varied with some nice use of the motion controller in some of them. My personal favourite is mochi pounding - where you knead "sticky sweet dough" by pounding a big mallet, a balancing act game - where you have to balance various items on Toros head, basketball where you throw basketballs through a hoop, and a sliding get to A-Z home game. Quite a few of the motion games are multiplayer adding to the fun.

Other games (non motion) are for example racing cars, archery, cards, dancing, and smashing watermelon.

Alas some of the games are very short with only a minute to actually play them (time limit), which kind of spoils the enjoyment. Also if you fail to clear the game, or make a fatal mistake you have to wait for the portion of the game to be reloaded from disc which considering the non complex and graphic nature of the games is a little annoying - not sure why it can't all be stored in memory....

Some of the games can be quite hard - snakes as in the "traditional" game as you can only use left and right buttons to control! and as I can't play cards I had to ask my brother to help clear for me.

You don't have to play the story mode to enjoy the individual mini games as theres a selection of waiting mini games for you to play in the main menu about 10 in total, and as you unlock the games in story mode these are added to the overall total.

Also in the main menu is a section which has pictures, music and art of the various Toro games previously released as well as Calendar art. As a bonus you can install Toro XMB themes.

The Asian version has mentioned is in english text but the main narration is in Japanese. However there are some minor typos and grammar problems in the text which looks a bit sloppy and some dialogue which doesn't make any sense (bit like this review)

One nice touch I noticed was when progressing through story mode, some of the characters which Toro meets on his journey through the individual chapters are then displayed on the main title screen when you return to it.

The music is not bad but it does get quite repetitive when playing through story mode and theres not really much stereo effects and definitely no 5.1!
Toro meets a wide ranging assortment of characters on his journey and they get into some scrapes some of them are kind of strangely mature i.e. kidnapping because Toro's friend couldn't pay his gambling debt! As this game is designed for an asian audience there is a strong moral element to Toros journey i.e. be helpful, make friends, help others out, but also some funny humour too sporadically which put a smile on my face.

This game has trophies and quite alot of them too but most of them are brozne rated, if you clear the game you get a gold and silver.

Oh I forgot to mention there is a nifty camera function which you can use to take snapshots!

How long do you think it will take to clear all the mini games and get Platinum Trophy? Any sort of 2-player gameplay?

To get the Platinum will take quite some time, you need to get A rank at least in all the games and clear the marathons on top (get 1,000 points combined by playing the three games listed). There's some blanked out/locked Trophies but there's no descriptions under them, so no idea how to unlock them. Forgot to mention in the review theres also an online leaderboard - so maybe its related to that?

It took me about three weeks on and off to clear the game normally but I only get to play sporadically in the evenings what with work and childcare.

Theres plenty of multiplayer games up to 4 players can play, but I think most of them are turn based, with only a few actually multi play in competition or helping each other out.
