Good three or four hours into this now.
If you've played through Professor Layton and the Curious Village, then you'll know what to expect.
Story early on isn't quite as compelling as the first game but it's still filled to the brim with charm and teases lots of twists and mysteries.
The puzzles are of the same style, sometimes plot related, more often related to whatever item or person you investigate. There are repeat puzzles from the previous game (tower of hanoi, those annoying 'get item to the bottom' sliding block puzzles) but most of them are new (or feel new) and have a large amount of creativity behind them.
There have been some two dodgy questions; one of these involved a circle of faces which suffered from overly complicated instructions, another, involving a mayoral election suffered from appauling wording that made you guess an incorrect answer. Only the hints revealed that when they said 'any candidate' they should've said 'ALL candidates'. Nothing approaching that Night guard or that chocolate bar puzzles yet though, they'll all been solvable from information in the hints.
There's also the eternal 'is this a trick question?' question for puzzles that seem overly straight forward that ensures it's never trivial.
In terms of new stuff, there's a tea brewing mini game and a hamster training game (both involve stuff you collect) that are essentially puzzles in their own right.
Overall, more of the same so far but that's exactly what I wanted.
