    NBA 2k10

I was in the store with both Live and 2k in my hands. I ultimately chose 2k because it was quite a bit cheaper and because the scores were slightly in its favor. This is also the first game with the new style PS3 box it seems, looks good.

I find the game to be quite underwhelming though.

The gameplay is kind of slow and not all that good looking. You'll need all fingers to do the tricks, and it still has that horrible Free throw control with the Right Stick. Graphics are mediocre (for once, the Ps3 version is the one without any slowdown though), as is the whole presentation and menu structure. Much like PES; this feels as if this is still somewhere in limbo between 2 console generations. I played a match against the CPU and it was boring, when they broke away they would just do the most boring layups or jump shots most of the time. Its all very sub-par to me.

According to IGN, 2k10 is superior to Live. Well I did fire up the Live demo again to compare and to my experience its the other way around. I had a blast with that demo. Live may have worse position play and defensive AI, I found it to be much more fun and it kind of nails the feel of action packed NBA B-Ball you'll see on ESPN. Players will dive towards the ball etc.

I do think i'm going to keep 2k10, there is a level of depth underneath I want to give a chance, but I'll probably end up getting Live and playing that more.

As mentioned before about the slowdown, which for me is a game killer. It does happen on the PS3 - but less frequently. The 360 is by far the biggest culprit. Which i'm currently playing.
There is this monster topic on the official 2K forums about it. Let's just say, there's not a many happy chappy there.

For me, it happens a lot (and by far the worst offender) on the Wachovia Center (76'ers)
Also happens in the Q (Cavaliers) and the Amway Arena (Magic) though it's not as bad as the Wachovia.
Happens on the default Broadcast cam and the 2K cam (which is really the only way to play this)
The thing is, it doesn't start off too bad, the stuttering frames that is. Until you reach the 3rd and 4th quarters, and definitely takes a nosedive. You then find it hard to get the release points for your shooters and when you're taking free throws, i know that i've timed the release for the 1st one, which tends to be a little harder to time, perfectly. Yet it tells me that i've relased it 'too late'

I know last year 2K9 had the same issues about the stuttering camera, most noteably the 2K cam, and it was patched within a month to make it smoother.
Well, here's hoping the same this year.
Though shoddy of 2k for them to let us essentially beta test for them again.

I'll post more impressions about the game tomorrow, as i just wanted to get the gripes out the way.

But on the whole, i'm content with how 2K10 has been.
    Just not blown away.
