    Eyepet [PS3]

This seems to have had a hell of a soft launch with some places not even stocking it. I had a brief go last night and it seems as responsive to motion tracking as the vids had made out. Though definately geared to kids it's a likeable oddity, plays a bit like a Tamagotchi but without the demands on your time.

Main issues are the annoying professor who acts as your unskippable guide and that the game has been designed under the impression that you have a vety specific set up i.e a wide open space between you & your PS3 and a ledge by your console that is specifically knee height so its less than practical for many....

    like me, ha ha!

So what happens if your console isn't set up in this way? What would happen if, for instance, my PS3 is barely off the ground and there's a mere two metres between it and my gaming position? Does it rely on lots of bright, natural light, or does it still work well in dim rooms and under artificial lighting?

Also, what is the purpose of this ledge? To rest the camera on? Or would that be where the monkey does its dancing and stuff?

    The monkey does dance... right?

Yeah as far as I can see you need a table between you and your TV. I kind of have that but only sit 4 feet from TV.

So it is lame then, as we thought? My TV rises out of the end of my bed. I gather this will be no good for me. Not that I was ever going to buy it anyway.

Does it rely on the normal playstation eye, same one as eye of judgement?, cause quite frankly that device is terrible and only seems to work in sterile white clean rooms.

What is this "Magic Card" thing?

ive got this for my kids and it works very well

my setup is nothing on floor infront of tv, no tables just clear carpet, tv stand with camera on the shelf with my ps3 about 30 cm's off floor (needs to be between 30 - 60 cm off floor) no lights on (have big patio doors) and works great.

magic card is just a cd box sized card that you need to put in front of you at the camera to make it activate certain things.

I went through the set up tricking it into thinking it was set up so it looks like the pet is playing on my lap. (that's how little room I have), I might move the PS3 downstairs tomorrow to try a proper tryout. It's fun but I imagine it's possible to see everything quite quickly. It's the normal PS3 Eye camera but it does appear to be very good at detecting things though I haven't tried the drawing feature yet.

Played around with this for a couple of hours with my daughters. I have pretty much the perfect setup for it with the TV unit the right height from the floor and a nice big light area in front of it, and I have to say it's pretty much spot on in its accuracy. So much so in fact that if you so much as obscure a tiny part of the square on the 'magic card' it removes it from the display.

Takes a little getting used to how it all works, but once you understand how to hold it and where to position yourself it's fine. It's a little tricky explaining the little foibles to young'uns though - I'm obviously used to making excuses for the way games do certain things, but it doesn't come so naturally to them.

I got as far as unlocking the drawing part of the game but I haven't tried that yet.

Saw this advertised on TV & it made me laugh, especially when the kid blows up the paper bag & scares the hell out of him!!

Whoever devised the unlock process for this game, specifically linking it to the trophies, needs to be fired.
