    God of War 3 - Demo [PS3]

Just had my first play-through of this and what a blast. It's the E3 demo from June so it's nothing I hadn't seen before but it's obviously different when you're playing the demo.

I enjoyed the first GoW when but I don't think I played the second at all so it's a very long time for me to be able to give comparisons really. There's probably people on here who have played them far more recently than I have though.

Although you see it all in the videos by Christ it's a gory game when you're snapping people in two or pulling their guts out.

It's still a bit rough at the moment and I've noticed the audio skip a couple of times and there 's bits where things like the reflections or shadows don't quite look as they should but this demo will be 6 months old when the game is released.

I'm surprised to say that the Icarus vent section was really enjoyable, my heart was beating like mad when I'd built up a bit of speed. I'm wondering if those sections will mean that there will be no loading in the final game?

I've never really been any good at these types of games but I still enjoy them. I can't pretend that I knew what the hell I was doing in this with the combo system but hell, there was blood soaked body parts flying all over Mount Olympus so I don't really care at the moment.

This is one seriously angry feller you're in control of, he reminded me a bit of Christian Bale but he wasn't quite that bad.

I've pre-ordered the God of War Collection now as that's out in November and will hopefully keep me going until Easter.

Cheers for the impressions John. It sounds great. I'm in the same boat as you: loved the original but missed out on number 2 so will be ordeering the collection too. Do you know if this demo is included?
Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.

I have to agree, its fantastic and its probably the only game that has let anyone disembowel a horse (not that im suggesting sony use it as a bullet point for the back of the box!). vicious, fast and epic. I too am ordering the GOW collection from movietyme.

Only ever played a bit of the first game and followed the story.
Havent seen much about this since the announcement trailer, media blackout for me on a lot of retail games at the moment.
After playing this demo I was glad I did, some of the scenes in this were brutal but so damn satisfying to play and see for the first time.

Pulling out the giant cyclops dudes eye was nasty, as was the fight with the centaur where you just gut him at the end, awesome stuff.

The way the demo ends is just makes you want it to be March 2010 already.

Got the collection on pre-order, hopefully by showing support for this sony may introduce some more titles in HD from the back catalogs, one can only hope.

No problem, I don't think I'm the best person to post though as I don't have that much to compare this to.

The demo is included with the US collection but from what I can remember SCEE haven't said anything about the collection apart from the fact that we're not getting it until next year sometime.

I would have hoped that a general release demo arrives sometime anyway, it was really nice to have the surprise of this arriving today, particularly as it's not due out until Easter sometime but there isn't any reason to exclude people really.

I've had another run through of it now and I enjoyed it more as I played around with the combos a bit more. They don't seem particularly complex and there's only two weapons in the demo but the d-pad does give you an empty click sort of sound if you press it in a direction which doesn't one of the weapons so I wouldn't be surprised to find other weapon in the full game.

I can understand why David Jaffee described it as looking like a painting now. It doesn't look like a painting but there is definitely something painterly about the textures in the game. It certainly doesn't look realistic in an way at all but I do like the way it looks.

I found that jumping on to ledges was a little tricky but I wouldn't be too surprised to see that being improved by release. I also find the bit with the giant fiery catapult thing really difficult the first time I tried and it must have taken me about 20 attempts to hit Helios as he flew past.

Other people may well have got him straight away but I just couldn't work out the angles because of the camera angle.

That reminds me of something else that I wasn't keen on at first, the right stick is used to roll Kratos out of the way but at first I was instinctively trying to move the camera around. It didn't take long to pick it up though.

I have to say something about the harpies too! Them's some damn ugly boobs they have!!!

          EDIT:
I thought I should add also that there's a lovely weight to the combat. When he hits something with force (which he does quite a bit to be fair) it really feels like he's hitting something bloody hard.

Got emailed a code to download this demo a few hours ago, I'd expect lots of people to get it "valued user etc..." except I haven't switched on or logged into the PS network since about March!

I saw you playing it last night..... I went instantly to the PSN store to find the demo.... no luck ofcourse, no demo on PSN...

really looking forward to GOW3, I loved the 1st game on the PS2, never played GOW2 though, BTW how does it graphically compare to Uncharted2 ?!

                I'm avoiding the demo.

God of War 2 and CoO (especially) were pretty short games. I don't really want a demo to spoil 10-20% of the game.

Hope they make real efforts to lengthen this one given how long it's been in development.

Check your emails - the code is in one from Sony, the demo is not on PSN.

                  Good luck.

I don't like it. It looks good but I'd rather have 60fps and a deeper combat system.

You're not alone mate. I usually get these but I get them a lot later than others. Don't care for this though, I have no desire to play it before March.

The first one is one of the greatest games ever...I replayed the 2nd one and it isn't a patch on the first tbh.

Will definitely try the 3rd...the 2nd wasn't a bad game, just couldn't measure up to the heights set by the first game.

Simply put, this is a great showcase and another ps3 must have. I have now pre ordered the 1 & 2 pack from the states thanks to how good this demo is and never played either so another xmas gem I hope.

                            Roll on Easter

I never get any of this stuff even though I've had a ps3 since launch and spent over 200 quid on psn. Thanks then!
