I have always been a firm believer that simple is best and Army Defender is a prime example with its simple but engrossing gameplay that has had me hooked for hours.
The game is a very basic tower defense game and for 200 points only blows the lackluster and easy Viking Invasion out of the water.
The idea is you have a tower with one heavy duty gun and a healthbar for the tower. You have to survive waves of attacks from green and red troops (i will get to that in a sec) while not shooting down your own which help you should they get to the tower.
The green troops only take damage from green bulliets and red troops only take damage from red, with a simple button press the colour your shooting changes from green to red. The game also has a combo system for shooting down enemies without wasting bullets. the more heavy duty the thing you take out the better the score. As the level advanced you have a chance to earn bonus weapons and bombs. as you kill enemies your bomb metre fills and you can store upto 4 of them to use at anytime during that level. You also have the chance to earn bonuses by not shooting down your planes which then drop off goodies to your tower.
Unlike most tower defence games this is very fast paced and for each wave you survive you have to endure a harder longer next round.
The game is played side on like the brain training game and has a left handed option which flips the screen. The presentation is very good with music that fits the game well and a very nice to look at cartoon graphical style that would not look out of place on retail games.
This has been a great week for DSiware look out for my Uno impressions tomorrow but i sure give this one the bargaintastic tag of DSiware games buy it now.
