Once you learn the systems it's great. We'll see how this transfers to the other modes but as far as I can see they are really solid.
I've been enjoying it so much I'm tempted to pick up the hunter edition at HMV even if it has a load of tat with it. Christ this demo really has split opinions hasn't it!
I don't see anything good or, more importantly, fun about the multiplayer aspect though. It just feels like a chore to play especially if you're an Alien.
I still have my pre-order at Zavvi for the PC version, so the shoddy multiplayer wasn't enough to put me off the game totally.

I think the multiplayer will really come into its own on the team modes which it's obviously been designed for but if you don't find it fun to play on multiplayer I don't think that'll change your mind.
It's funny how people take to some games though and don't with others. AvP, even going by the demo, is something I've found really really special. I can see me playing it for a looooooong time and thankfully there's a lot of people I know who are enjoying it too so should be able to get many multiplayer sessions going. Some of them are great with the alien already too, the sneaky bastards. Thankfully it's great to melee them in the face and pump them full of pulse rifle rounds, after getting all tense beforehand due to that bloody motion tracker
I'm going to be very interested in reviews for this one though I suspect it won't effect me much regardless. When's the embargo up ? Release day I'm guessing ?Last edited by mr_woo; 08-02-2010, 14:33.

Having spent 6 days plus on MW2 my first feeling on AvP was disappointment but I stuck with it and am now loving the fun and challenge.
95% of the time I'm a marine and really enjoy the vulnerability and the paranoia the motion tracker creates. In the multi-leveled areas of the map it is almost useless which definitely adds to the tension.
I prefer when each species work together as this is more fun in my opinion so I am surprised a FFA game type was decided for the demo.
Looking forward to the full game MP - predator hunt and survivor mode should be awesome.

Only managed to get 2 games going in this, 1 as predator, 1 as marine. The predator was great fun, hiding and hunting an' all. The marine on the other hand wasn't great. I got my arse kicked royally by a load of aliens every few seconds. Still, I loved AVP 2 and this seems to have the same atmosphere, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
The title screen is awfully similar to metroid prime...

IGN UK Review: Alien vs. Predator IGN UK Writes: The three species set-up feels generous even at a time when people demand so much of their games, but it's a premise that dates back to Rebellion's first Aliens vs. Predator in 1994. While much has changed it still feels a little rusty – this isn't as slick as a Modern Warfare or Halo and its production values feel like they're from a different age, with poor textures and the occasional unimaginative set-piece belying the fact that underneath the HD dazzle is a core idea that's changed little in over 15 years. But that never truly detracts from how much fun is to be had throughout Aliens vs. Predator's myriad modes as Rebellion leans heavily on the source material, creating a game that's going to stoke the hearts of anyone who ever fell in love with the original films – which is likely anyone who's ever picked up a game pad.
Score 8.5/10

Played this for the first time the other night and found it really enjoyable (the mp demo that is). Played as a marine and managed to win the game over a myriad of Predators and Aliens, the motion tracker is both a huge benefit and a paranoia inducing curse. Found to survive I had to hug the walls, move slowly and keep my eyes open at all times - any other type of play ended up with me very dead indeed.

Add me to the camp that love the demo.
I've only had a chance to play as a Marine so far but I pretty much dominated an online session. It's absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere is out of this world.
It genuinly made me jump when the game goes from complete silence, to being pierced straight through the back by an alien's tail that you just didn't see coming...
Fantastic stuff.
The shotgun's a bit useless though. Pulse rifle has a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge clip meaning as soon as you see anything black move, you can pretty much spray and pray and you'll end up with a kill.
Beef up the shotgun, slightly reduce the pulse rifle clip. All's groovy!

There's an updated demo on the PSN Store. It has had tweaks made to the lobby and apparently the graphics are better than the first version. You have to go to the PSN Store and download it as a new item. It's taking ages to come down for me tonight. It hasn't been released on the Marketplace.

I've just played the new PS3 demo and while it does indeed look a bit nicer, the animations are still naff and it feels just as clunky to play. The text about the 'quality of the demo not representing the final product' was a bit different to the 360 demo. Damage limitation maybe. I really hope the campaigns are better than the demo. I'm starting to believe some of the poorer reviews that are surfacing.
