    Blaster Master: Overdrive

This went up on WiiWare today and is a remake of Sunsoft's 1988 NES game.

I've never played the original before but have found this rather fun so far. You spend most of the game exploring a Metroid style non-linear cave system in a bouncy little tank that reminds me of the tank from Metal Slug. You can also get out of the tank, controlling a little man-with-gun, and can enter rooms to play Contra-like top-down sections with boss battles every now and then.

The mix of genres works really well and there's a nice feeling of exploration and puzzle solving in the Metroidy bits. I can't say more than that, as I've only played for about an hour, but I have a really good feeling about this so far.

i have got the Nes original balster master and its a fantastic game, i nearly bought this last night, but im going to wait for some more reviews or impressions as i doubt it will come close to the Nes original, sounds quite good though. Also this isnt a remake of the original its a new game ive just found out so im getting it.

Hmm. Everything I've read indicates that it's a remake. In what way is it significantly different?

Well, for starters, the level design is completely different, so that pretty much rules out a remake right off the bat.

And the on-foot portions bear very little resemblance to the original. (Actually, practically none at all except that, in both, you shoot things.)

There are more, but this is, most certainly, not a remake by even a loose definition.
