    Shoot 1UP

Indie shooter for pennies (80 points).

At that price I just bought it without trialling.

You only have 1 credit. Lives are represented on screen by actual ships in your "phalanx", each one firing its own stream of bullets.

The phalanx can be expanded across the screen or pulled in tightly so all the ships are on top of each other for concentrated firepower. Or anywhere in between.

However, all ships must be moved around objects/bullets or any of them hitting something will be lost. Powerups come in the form of 1UPs to join your phalanx.

Levels have branching paths (veer left or right at the prompted times), and there are vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling and any direction you fancy scrolling areas.

The 1UP hook is so different that it's quite compelling thus far.
The music is fantastic in places.
Graphics are variable but some nice ideas and mix of styles.

Hit boxes are quite big, but it's not a bullet-fest most of the time, with slow bullets all over the place to move around.

If you are a shooter fan, you need to try this.

Tried out the trial earlier and bought it when the time ran out so I could complete the rest of the game.

I had gone through all of the indie shmups yesterday (99% wouldn't be worth playing even if they were freeware) because this was being release. Shoot 1UP is the best of them and is worth paying the small amount.

Played through the whole game on the chilled out setting. Nice and easy. I'll play it again later on the harder modes.

The expand/contract gimmick is quite nice. It lets you have access to the standard ship/fire types dynamically unlike standard shmups.

I'm hoping this thread is slow because everyone is too busy playing this?

For 60p this has to define the term 'automatic purchase'.

On chilled mode, it reminds me a lot of Super Aleste - it's not hard but it's great fun destroying the huge bosses with a screen filling ship(s).

Haven't tried it on the harder modes yet, but looking forward to. I'm going to be dreaming of numbers falling down the screen tonight.

I was having fun with the Score Trek mode earlier today (unlocks after you complete the game on Normal or higher difficulty). It gives you the 'just one more go' twitch without having to sit through 20-30 mins of gameplay.

By far the best indie 360 Shmup. Try the demo or the early pc version.

Just to note, the green homing orbs are bastards.

Ok, if you stop firing, you build up a shield of increasing radius. When you next fire, it destroys/damages everything within its radius including bullets. You get mega points for this, especially if you are spread out a bit.

It's all pretty lightweight, but really, this could be a great introduction to a shmup noob. I haven't tried serious yet though.

maybe some of us hate schmups and wouldn't download em even if free ?

I'd rather buy my avatar a hat.

Bought this to support, and it's not bad. Having been rather spoilt for shmup choice it's not blown me away but don't let me put you off - this is 80msp excellently spent. Biggest flaw for me is that the whole expand/contract mechanism isn't particularly precise which makes the scoring system a bit too chancy for my liking. Still, it's good fun, has a lot of quick, varying levels with a variety of bosses to keep you on toes, and the way the main 1up hook works is unlike anything I've played before.

This makes me look forwards to Duality ZF even more

Took the plunge last night after reading some good things about this and having half an hr spare which I was happy to chuck 80pts at. Man am I glad I did, what a great little shooter this is, genuinely fun to play and an absolute steal at 80pts, it kind of reminds me of some of the old Megadrive / Amiga shooters that I used to play which is no bad thing in my eyes, great stuff .

Just downloaded this myself (Via the PC) so I'll give it a blast later one when the missus has finished watching the TV. I just wish the indie games were listed in release order. If they are I can't find it on my JPN 360.
