Seriously. And even weirder than the concept in general is that it's actually kinda fun.
So, basically, you control a newborn baby in the fetal position or, excellently, your avatar, which is completely bizarre and entirely hilarious.
First you have to be born, do this by building up a meter by pressing LT and RT in rhythm, and then mashing B to build up a power meter. The better you do, the faster you're launched from your mother. Yeah, you read that right.
You then have two controls, X is boost which sends you up and gives you a little speed boost. A is dive, which, dives.
You only get one boost but there are loads of glowing blue points in the level which if you hit will grant you an extra boost. That's where diving comes in.
So basically, launch as far as you can!
