Question about legion mode - I got a message saying i had won two potions that would restore my characters health, but I couldn't find any way to use them??

edit - ah, that's cos it's automatic and random. Never mind. Have just done normal mode myself, and my god Unlimited Arakune is ridiculous! If you get cursed, which is inevitable, then the screen just fills with projectiles from all directions! Who on earth could defend against that? I saved and kept reloading until I could take him out without getting bombarded, then once he was on my team the rest of the map became more or less a push over. I didn't even look at his move list. Just hit D until they were cursed and then mashed the buttons over and over, lol.

He did get killed by Unlimited Jin, but I beat him with another character and then found I could repeat 6D->1D over and over to just knock the enemy back and forth in a frozen state. Spamtastic victory. I'm not looking forward to hard mode though as my only real way of winning is to collect as many Tagers as I can. I plain suck with all the other characters.

Argh that was annoying - I took a kicking in ranked from a Hakumen player who kept spamming one move over and over, his long range crumple attack. Should have been a piece of cake. He got the better of me in the first round, but in the second one I trounced him when I discovered he doesn't know how to do anything else. At the end of the third he went back to using the same move over and over and I just couldn't adapt before my health was gone ><

That's the worst kind of loss as I hate to reward that level of play with a victory.

Every loss today was to a Hakumen player, starting to hate that guy!

For Legion mode, the first thing to do is to take note where Unlimiteds and bonuses are. Usually there are boss rank down tiles near already high (S rank) groups that you can exploit to face them at an acceptable level. I find that everything up to A can be faced with everyone, S groups need some knowledge of the characters you're going to use and SS require skill or simply brute force.
Often it's better to skip an health potion and go for high ranking groups when they are up to S rank, in this way you can often find an Unlimited character to bolster your ranks without losing anyone. Ranks increase every three or so tiles, it's better to deal with problematic enemies first.

For the hard map, conquer the west part, go north, north-east and leave the south-east part last. Due to the CPU being defenless against long-range attack spamming, getting Nu or an unlimited Jin means that you can spam 236+D and 236+B to get an easy victory, the only exception being Rachel and Arakune: she really really likes to spam thunder poles and her new drive, Arakune likes to jump around spewing curses.

I think I've played enough now to weigh in on the scores poll. If this was your first dip into Blazblue I think it would be an awesome purchase, as it has all the content of the original plus more.

As someone who did invest in the original though, there doesn't really seem to be enough new content on the disc to justify it being another full price release. The additional characters and new modes could easily have been added via DLC (as proven by Makoto)

Some of the small upgrades to the interface are very welcome, especially allowing you to play arcade mode while waiting for a challenger. And the tutorial section is nice, but not as nice as challenge mode. For the original I had to print out move lists in text from forums and then try to figure out the timing and execution myself, with no idea if I was doing each step correctly - having the game judge you on the combos with sample videos to fall back on is waaaaaaay better.

The story mode still really grates with me for the mind-numbingly poor level of dialogue and humour... I would say it's all boob jokes but there aren't actually any jokes.. it's just talking about boobs as if that is funny in itself. The gag reel sections in particular must have been written by a 15 year old. I realise there is no escaping from that with something this heavily rooted in anime geekdom though.

Well anyway, questionable value for money if you bought the last one but a superior package in every way IMO.

Things I've learned today: don't try to beat Arcade in hell difficulty when waiting for an opponent in ranked matches. They always appear when you're winning against Hazama. And then the player disconnects. Twice. AAAARGH!

BTW, has anyone ever met players that just sit idly? It happened to me once days before and tonight it happened again, both players in their 30s. Downloaded some replays and got two of them had the same "problem"...is this some sort of way to keep your win/lose ratio within a certain level so that you don't end up against strong players? Why are they playing then?

That's never happened to me but I've only played around 16 ranked matches so far.

Win/loss ratio doesn't seem to matter as much as 'PSR', but I have no idea how that is determined. I think it depends on the level of opponents you fight. Trying to cheat such an obscure system seems like a waste of time to me though.

Could be that they went AFK, which might be easy to do considering you can sit in training while waiting for opponents.

I should play during the afternoon more often, there are only Japanese players around and on the average I have more fun with them than US players...they tend to spam a lot less, which should make me stick out like a sore thumb :P

However, I had to wait as PSN was down...a quick net search resulted in a post on the official forum about maintenance, so Score Attack...hello unlimited Haku-chan...damn you unlimited Haku-chan...
But then PSN was up and running again and a trophy warned me that I had fought against every possible character in the (current) roster. Last missing was Lambda (pretty ironic, but even in CT Nu wasn't that used), a level 51 Lambda that toyed with me a bit.

Met 3 times the same player with Bang and always came on top despite his higher level (20 or so levels for him).
Also had the first time out online, against a 40ish Hazama, ended 2 to 1 for him. In the last round he was saving up for the Astral Finish, but he pulled it when I was way outside the effective area, hit him with Lambda's Legacy Edge (long range distortion drive), we had (I think) the same health, I was keeping the distance and at the last second his Ouroboros connects before my summoned sword. Oh the frustration, I should have guarded, I though I was away enough.

One last thing I noticed: strange nicknames. I mean, mine is pretty strange, but there are a lot of a123123123 or five-5-5- or nicks that sound created for the sole purpose of keeping the main alias' win/loss ratio or PSR high...something that I can't really understand...hey, I don't have to rant about ragequitters as in CT, I must find something to rant about.

I spent a long time playing ranked matches today. I always set the filter to 'around the same strength'. I was level 20 when I started (I think) and yet for the three or four hours that I played I never fought an opponent lower than level 35 - highest was 45. Something is not right there, it was very demoralizing taking so many kickings. I rarely felt I had any chance to respond as I was caught in one immaculate combo after another (I kept checking the heat counter and the numbers were always red).

However the fact that everyone was stronger than me meant that I could skip up to level 23 with just a couple of wins (all that I managed to pull off).

Went to player matches for a few more just to get the 100 battles trophy. I entered a room of two guys (US going by the tags) who were obviously friends. I beat one of them who was playing with a very cocky style - hanging back and taunting, I made him look stupid cos I hit him mid-taunt with a spark bolt to finish the match. After that they both selected Tager, beat me by a narrow margin and then the host kicked me from the room. Very irritating.

edit - I've still never fought Taokaka or Arakune - I think they are all that's missing for me to get the trophy. Surprised at the lack of Arakunes, as he was a monster in the right hands on CT.

I've fought only one Arakune, and he probably was a Japanese player. I do remember to see that Arakune was his top PSR and hoping for him to chose him...
I don't exactly remember when I fought Taokaka but it probably was against Largo (if he can confirm/deny).

On the average player levels are higher than CT, but I guess most of the crowd playing right now is die-hard BB/fighting fans that just play online.

Still have to get either one of the 100 battles trophies, I guess I'm around 70 ranked matches and maybe 30 player matches.

That's probably just an arcade update containing all the DLC planned for console and the balance patch.

Agreed. They will probably show Platinum for the first time, but I suspect we're at least one year away from the third "proper" BB installment.
