I'm really, really not that great at videogames, but I'm not taking 'hours and hours' to get through each chapter. You can get through individual missions in something like ten or fifteen minutes, and I'm pretty sure few chapters have more than three or four of them. You shouldn't need any more than two hours at the absolute most to clear most of the chapters on Normal - I appreciate you might have an extremely busy life, but you're making it sound like a giant timesink when I'd really argue it's anything but. If it's literally taking you upwards of that I think you might need to drop down to Easy or something.
Its in your opinion of course and mine is in mine, but you are defending the indefensable. A quick save between missions would generally be the norm for any game of this generation.

I've become such a box whore, running around like a hungry frog flicking my tongue out at every orange cube of slotty goodness I see - since I realised the gun sword melee yields a box per kill its just getting worse...the slide/lunge from victim to victim is the only way to travel!
Last night I had big fun on a private post grab match playing around with the Secret Mechs of Mass Destruction - the **** they have put in this game is truly awe inspiring...even though the chances of being able to open those huge crates in a real match seem pretty slim to say the least...

I'm not sure what the obsession with starting multiplayer matches with sniper rifles is, but I find those matches are less fun as it's easier for people to camp than go for the posts, which leads to a checkmate situation.
Sometimes you'll play a match where your team mates are playing it like Team Elimination, then other times, the whole team is unified in grabbing posts and you whitewash the opposition!
The game itself though is still amazing! Another top night playing through the co-op with Riskbreaker and Elaniel. I thought last night's chapter (4) was superb with lots of great scenarios, such as the
prison break
and
submarine capture
.
Best of all though, is every few minutes, I'm finding myself going "Wooaah!" at something. In these days of taking hi-res multiplayer gaming for granted, it's nice that something can still stop you in your tracks when it impresses you. Be it a train-eating Akrid, sneaky AI soldier, a fleet of enemy mechs filling the horizon, discovering a new weapon's secret powers or transforming a mech into various modes of destruction.
Special mention to the Super Hyper Megazord and its ridiculous fan-service docking sequence. I was lovin' it!
I do feel a little sad that Capcom have clearly made so much effort into making this game with all the collectable weapons, abilities and character parts, but people are passing it by. Each section is lovingly crafted and different from the last, features an impressive boss battle and new weapons to discover.
If people buy this when it's cheap, please buy it with some friends and play it co-op as it's great fun and you're going to have some real adventures and war tales of escaping screen-filling aliens and backing each other up.
I think Games Radar's review summed it up best:
Lost Planet 2 is like a cute, eager-to-please puppy with horrible breath. It’s giddy, silly, enthusiastic, and really really wants you to be happy, but alas, it comes with an inherent flaw which makes the good times a bit of a slog to get to.
Lost Planet 2 is a Big Dumb Action Game, with a major focus on multiplayer co-op. If it had been released in the ‘80s it would be Contra. If it was a movie, it would be Predator. And there’s not a damn thing wrong with that. BDAGs are what gaming was built upon, and it’s actually bloody refreshing to play one as balls-out dedicated to the cause as LP2.Last edited by QualityChimp; 20-05-2010, 08:57.

Amen to that.
Finally unlocked all abilities including the Superstar ability which doubles your career score in campaign at the expense of radar. Had to farm 5-3, but it's such an easy way to get boxes it wasn't too bothersome.
Should be on again tonight Chimp and Elan. Took the fight to the Episode 4 boss on my own last night after the three of you buggered off. Needless to say I kicked his arse

I'm busy most of the night, but I'm sure we can squeeze a few chapters in, providing Elan doesn't drive his VS into the sea in the last few seconds of the level...
I've just read about the farming on that level and may well give that a try once I unlock it. I'm trying to get some good stuff instead of just names, but I think I'll just have to accept what I get in the fruit machine. Once the names are out the way, I'm sure I'll start getting better weapons!
Still loving the name I got whilst off work the other day - "Should be working"
I've just seen that tactical nuke video and we've definitely got to try that out!
Is it just on multiplayer that you get that mech?
Transform and roll out!

It may be because a lot of people found the first Lost Planet utter garbage and tbh, the adverts with the footage doing the rounds atm aren't exactly winning me over this time either. It just looks to play exactly the same as it's older brother.
I'll probably wait on this one till its under a tenner, as there does seem to be a lot of positive vibe for this outing in the thread.

I think if you hated the first you're probably not going to be swayed by this. It controls pretty much identically beyond a few tweaks (of which some are significant, gameplay-wise, but they're not going to come across on first impressions), the enemy AI is largely the same or worse, and the bosses are still old-school Capcom through and through. I could be wrong, but I'd be pretty surprised if anyone who really didn't get on with the original played the sequel and responded 'Thank Christ, they changed the (whatever), that was the one thing stopping me from liking the first game!'.

The first certainly took itself more seriously than this one (possibly too seriously, eh Wayne), this game really gets into its own identity when the
French Mexicans
turn up...if you don't love those guys then you are dead inside. Plus, like another misunderstood masterpiece
Bayonetta
(OK, OK LP2 is not quite a masterpiece) it gets better and better with each play through and just keeps giving...but yeah, if you hated on the first one and don't like the idea of a comedy version with loads of bells, whistles and horns you are best off out.

You know what it's like when you really enjoy something and you want others to get that same enjoyment too, but it's not the same for them? It's like that for LP2.
If it clicks, it really clicks, but if not, you just end up scratching your head what the fuss is about.
Popped home for lunch and had a quick blast on multiplayer. About 13 of the 16 players were from Japan and of those, 10 were no higher than level 1.
Anybody know why there were so many new Japanese players? Has it only just come out there? Is it pay day? Huh?
