I got this yesterday and am enjoying it so far.

I never finished Portable Ops, though. Can someone who did tell me if there's anything story-wise that I should know going into this game? I've got a good handle on the general Metal Gear story having finished MGS1-4, but given that this immediately follows it, even if PO was more of a side story than this, there might be some connection.

Figured out a really easy way to beat all the tank bosses yesterday, doesn't seem to work on the armoured vehicles though as it seems the boss has to spot you for it to deploy more soldiers.

Easiest to do on the Banana Factory (?) stage, but i'm sure there's a similar set up in the train yard stage (haven't tried it yet).

Start by moving slightly left then throwing a smoke grenade at the metal box next to you, so that it lands next to you.

Sniper rifle to kill two or three of the guards (headshot).

Then just keep repeating the process until the boss pops out.

You might lose a few Heroism points, not much though usually single figures.

Just need to figure out an easy way to beat the other bosses now, 4/5 skull rating bosses are a bit of a pain in the ass.

Think i'm over 50 hours in now, and still loving it.
The amount of weapons to experiment with is too good.

Hopefully gonna play it later today in co-ops with a few friends.

This, Mario Galaxy & GOW 3 are very special. Psp of late has really come alive again.

Just over 60 hours game time now, decided to try to Monster Hunter stages again last night after struggling with them before. No match for my levelled up MG3(AP), LAW, SPAS12 and Battle Armour w/Helmet.

I'm about five hours in now - at the

            helicopter boss

            - and I love this game. Even with the controls, which aren't bad at all once you get the hang of them, it's up there with MGS3 as my favourites from the Metal Gear series.

I'm a bit of a way into this and I don't see myself sticking with it despite my love for all things MGS. If there was a PSN edition made I'd give it a go as the game is clearly a masterfully made title but the PSP is crippling it. I keep trying but the systems controls are horrendous for this game and a certainly enough of a hinderance to it to stop any allusions of it being a 10/10er. Makes me want MGS5 even more now.

I'm about 8 hours in. Taking my time and absolutely loving it. Yes the PSP controls are fiddly but IMO the game design takes this into account and doesn't make it a problem. YMMV!

Just a quick question. After I do the 800MB install, should I have five seperate files? They are blue pictures that say "DATA" on them.
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

Yeah, if I remember correctly, that is the case. Lots of save files.

Such a great game you are about to play.

                      Thanks Jon.

What are the language options? Does it have French selectable, or English only? I'm tempted to pick up the French version, but not if it's exclusively in French.

Man, I miss the days when PAL games had 5 languages on one disc.

It's in Japanese. It doesn't have any other language options. The in-game voices are in Japanese, but the cut scenes have English text in the speech bubbles, so it's perfectly playable.

Man, I never even knew PAL games ever had 5 languages on one disc.

Yeah, during the DC and PS2 days, I think pretty much every DC game had 5 languages (Eng, Fre, Ger, Span and... Portuguese? Or Italian...). Also, many, many GBA and DS games. At one point PS3 games had about 50 languages, until they realised that people in some countries were importing from abroad to save money.

Anyway, so there's no English voice acting in this? No Dave Hayter? It won't be the same without Dave.

Also, if there's just English text, then it sounds like it's region specific. The French version will probably have French text (though, it must be said, there have been several high profile RPGs which have been 100% English, forcing locals to brush up or not bother playing).

Yes of course there's English and David Hayter doing the voice in the PAL version.
Joe only plays/talks about Japanese versions!

Been playing for an hour, only got to the third mission so far. Dunno if I like it or not, I keep getting killed.

Should I be fulton hooking everyone I come across?
