    Valkyria Chronicles 2

The PSP is on a roll isn't it? I was just done with the excellent Peace Walker. Now VC2, and then i'm looking forward to BBS and Ace Combat within a week.

VC2 can be removed of the 'to get' list as I bought it today. I was surprised it was even the EU version as its supposed to be out in September. Manual is B/W, but the inner casing has very cool artwork.

The game is a lot like the first, the music has the same vibe and the graphics aren't even far off. There is an optional install which will cost some 450mb of data. There doesn't seem to be a Japanese language track this time around though. There is also an Extra menu that contains Link Data, Passwords and Content list. I guess this is for DLC, or trade items of some sorts.

The game itself, it starts off with an Easy or Normal select. Ofcourse I'll go with Normal, beaten VC1 and all.Gallia's at stake yet again, a country that reminds me of something familliar. Gameplay is much like it is on the Ps3, but slightly watered down. Also, the analog nub suffers yet again. Its therefore harder to place the crosshair on someones face for headshots (well, d-pad works for that too). There seems to be some changes like Morale which increases/decreases your CP when you do things in battle, but otherwise it really seems to be the same, which is good. I do like the new Armored class. You can make them, while your shocktroopers etc go head on, travel towards the back of enemies and smack them with melee.

If you loved the Ps3 version, go out and buy it right away.

Thanks for the impressions Saturn-Gamer. Have got this pre-ordered so should hopefully have it by the weekend.

    Are you still enjoying it?

Has to be said. For a 'dead' console, the PSP is getting far better releases than the DS is getting h2 2010.

It's a shame a lot of the stuff coming out in Japan isn't getting localised.

Just played the demo and it's incredible! Looks amazing with a gorgeous colour pallette and the cel shading effect is still present.

Got a bit lost though and was unsure where to go at certain points.

Still a day 1 for me as the PS3 game was marvellous!!

I never play on the handheld that frequent, but gave it a few hours at last sunday.

Its pretty solid. Base capture is different now, it doesn't require CP to switch. You have to capture a base to get access to different parts of the map. There is no mid battle saving it seems, which is kind of weird. But the missions were pretty short so far.

The main plot however is far less impressive, being at school etc. But the overall setup seems to be more solid. You can create squads, which I think is done so that you don't have to separately add characters everytime but just choose the right squad for the right mission. The level up system seems to be improved too. The lead character can be developed into any class, so if you fancy Shocktrooper for him there you go.

Classes do branch out of eachother, so a Sniper can be developed out of a scout. And a Sniper can be developed into an Anti-Armor Sniper etc.

I'm so glad I pre-ordered this at work. We're only getting that one copy it seems.

The PSP might be getting some great games in it's 'Indian Summer' but retailers aren't buying them in any real quantity!

As has been said on 1ups ATB podcast a couple of times, the PSP is the new Saturn, loads of great games coming out but largely ignored in the west. I have this pre-ordered so hope to get it soon as it sounds great. That said I'm not sure when I'll get to play it as I'm currently into Ys Seven, which I've not even seen a first play thread for here.

GAME screwed up my pre-order, so a delay for me.

I only pre-ordered it for the free DLC. When is it out exactly? And does anyone have an idea of the cost? If it's for a couple of quid, then the screw up with GAME was a bit pointless really. Should have gone elsewhere.

Or is the DLC exclusive to pre-orders?

Also, not sure how this can be described as watered down, when you can choose the class of your main characters... What if you choose something, but change your mind later on, you're stuck!

According to the Sega UK website:

Please note mission content will also be available to purchase via Playstation Network from day of release.
No information re pricing. I think my pre-order was ?17.99 so I think it'll still work out cheaper than pre-ordering from Game.
