    Sengoku Basara 3 DEMO (Ps3)

Awesome, awesome game. I finished both stages, and its really fun.

Graphics are powered by MT Framework Lite. Since its also on Wii. But on Ps3 they are still way better than those found in DW6, and there doesn't seem to be any pop-up and the framerate is rock solid 60fps. I like the bloom effects myself.

Gameplay takes some getting used to, the camera seems to be ropey at first. But I don't mind it anymore. You can block a lot, counter and smash away. Especially the Basara special grants some awesome fireworks and slow mo effects.

This demo is probably the best hack 'n slash I've played, I think it absolutely destroys N3 and DW on these gens consoles. Have not played Hokuto no Ken yet, but I doubt it'll be better.

Its US store by the way, if I didn't mention. Japan Store too for the purists (the English dialogue is... well, mediocre I guess).

If its like DMC? Well, there are juggles and some of the moves do look cool for being a hack n slasher. Its not really as stylish as DMC ofcourse, but its much more stylish than DW for sure. The explosions after you've beaten an objective (such as the watergate guards) are cool too.

I also initiated some sort of tug of war standoff once, where I had to fill the bar by mashing Square to deliver a deathblow.

Are there audio cues in the demo?

Wow! Interesting impressions there Saturn-gamer. I thought it was utterly, utterly terrible!

I thought it looked really ropey with basic character models and really boring level design - basically boxes joined by tunnels with very little iteraction except for being able to bust open the odd box. Even if it's due out on Wii too there should be more effort to spruce up the PS3 version.

Gameplay wise it's just totally generic. Square and Triangle are your main attack buttons with other special moves on R1 and Circle. L1 centres the camera and blocks and L2 initiates your super bar once you've smacked enough heads together to use it. Seeing as it's a button masher you'd expect the controls to be nice and responsive but if you hammer the buttons too much you get locked into a combo meaning you can't turn and face enemies who have snuck up behind you.

The camera is terrible with no option to invert the vertical axis.

Couple the above with the utterly terrible dub and random repeated soundbites by characters (whilst fighting the triple boss I kept hearing "our Lord is sick" over and over again) and you've got an absolute howler of a game.

It sold really well in Japan but I can see it sinking without trace when it comes out over here.

Why would you need audio cues? It's a simple button masher.
                Kept you waiting, huh?

But how do you compare it to DW6 Empires and N3?

I could never enjoy those. DW6 Empires lacked spark, had awful pop-up, wonky framerate (or was that Strikeforce?) and textures. Also way too unbalanced difficulty. N3 was slow and just boring.

Sengoku Basara I really do enjoy, despite its indeed ropey camera. Yes, the combo thing can be problematic. But after fighting the boss for some time it did make me buttonbash less. I would wait for an opening, and carefully hit first before continuing a combo. Could also approach stages differently, such as entering the boss area via a different route and initiating an ambush.

I also read its going to be a lower priced release (40 USD in the States at least). I'm certainly going to buy it.

I thought N3 was an unbalanced mess of a game. No amount of "ooh, Tetsuya Mizuguchi did it" could save the boring slog it's levels became.

DW6 Empires, to me, felt like the other DW games. DW Gundam was only mildly interesting because of the change to giant robots (it still felt like you were hitting pillows though).

I'd group them all in the same category of "bleurgh"!!

It seems to me that games like this remove the need for skill by just giving you two attack butons and a huge amount of enemies to bash hoping that the thrill of seeing 15 - 20 bodies smashed up into the air masks the lack of depth.

                    But that's just me...

The combat just feels really limp. Even utilising the rumble feature of the controller would help a little in making you feel like you were pummeling your way through crowds of enemy troops.

Yeah, Hack 'n slash could be labeled as bad games objectively speaking. Graphics always dated, bad sound, repetitive gameplay, nonsensical AI... did I forget something?

But I do like the genre for some reason. Even N3 had its moments for me, where I would spin an enemy around and hit 100's of others with it. It gave some sort of feeling of might.

Its a true love it or hate it genre. I believe DW6:E is considered to be one of the finest hack 'n slash out there.

You guys sure it's on the JPN store? Can't seem to find it, only things SB3 related are two themes and a video, didn't wanna play it with the English dub =_=

Its not indeed. Someone was playin the full JP game

Figures as its already an older game in Japan. Have to go with the dub I fear. Why those dubs anyway, what kind of wackos play these games? Hardcore peeps not caring for dubs.

Just played it and absolutly love it, do love the variation on combat and combos. Will be picking up the us release thats for sure.

I don't know why you guys hate the dub, its nothing atrocious. It just sounds like standard top of the range anime fare to me.

Is it possible to beat the armor clad guy (sword guy stage)? I couldn't do it.

What I did was run from him, killing captains for the gates to open. He would then stop chasing and resort to lightning bolts. Gives you more breathing space than him chasing you.

The other stage has no such event, but 2 bossfights.

It seems that running away and going for the last floodgate eliminates the Ninja's copies?

Also, you can go around the final boss area there, and beat the captain which will lower a bridge for an Ambush entry.
