Lost last night to this. 500 points and worth every penny.
The single player modes are challenging enough for old hands like us, and the online modes are...Good. I hate the 4-player item battles. It feels like players with skills get mucked over by people who use items well. You can tell that's just bitterness from having lost every battle I played in that mode.
With items off it's a straight one-on-one battle - old school-style. Not as quick to find an opponent but more satisfying a victory in my opinion.
Also this uses the DSi wifi settings so those who have WPA2 security don't need to lower their defenses to take it online. I don't know if this is common nowadays but it's the first game I have that does it.
All in all, two thumbs up.
