It had that lovely Mitsuda sound.

Got this today, found a stray copy in my local Blockbuster. Can't wait!

Anyone playing this on a CRT? They have used no flicker filtering at all, it is aliased to hell and flickery as they can be. It looks like it is running at 50hz even in 60hz. Really disappointed with the visuals in this so far, lovely artisticly but not technically. FFXII looks far nicer.

Still, the most important part is the game and I have really liked what I have played so far.

        Really? Mine looked lovely.

NTSC Wii, forced to PAL 60Hz, running through S-Video on a UK CRT TV. Never noticed any problems. S-Video naturally anti-aliases stuff anyway, unless you turn sharpness way up.

Are you playing this directly through RGB SCART?

            RGB yes, it is disgusting.
If you put on NTSC FFXII on PS2 with the in game flicker filter set to off it looks just like it. Really aliased and heavily interlaced. I even had to make sure my Wii had not be set to 50hz by mistake it was so bad.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not basing my opinion of the game on this but it set me a poor impression.

Well sort of over the scruffy visuals now, lack of filtering. It does look nice in other respects and the world feels fantastic. Really liking it so far and done nothing. Played 90 mins and just been bumming around the Colony doing side missions. It is just so much fun wandering around finding stuff. The game world rivalls Final Fantasy XII from what I have seen so far.

Just like to add that i'm not convinced that this game is really running in 60hz. It flickers like made even when you bring up the home menu in game. Is the home menu built to the console or individually programmed into each game?

Not to sound funny, but have you tried other Wii games on that same unit recently? I switched to a Dolphin emulator a while ago, but I don't recall it being so bad. I suppose I could switch my system's video and go back to RGB SCART to check, but the hassle that requires I think I'll just take your word.

As for Hz, not sure how relevant this is, but the Japanese runs at 30fps, and the Euro release (however you run it) always runs at 25fps. The only way to increase it to 30 is to patch the ISO.

Yes I have, they all work perfectly.
The more I look around the more convinced I become that the game does not support 60hz. It should run at 30fps on emulators if you select that option. It is so noticable on some games when you select both. It is a big shame as the flickering is caused by this and it would look a lot nicer on import.

Makes me sad seeing the greedy people on ebay selling this new and sealed for as much as possible

This is getting better. Have had to abandon Dolphin as it crashes constantly. Tried multiple builds, pc and mac versions, 32 and 64 bit, every type if gfx setting. Result always the same.

Looks good enough on wii though. Just got to point where I can

                      see the future

. so now more tactics to learn.

This game is utterly and totally fantastic. 17 memorable hours in and I don't care that the combat falls apart sometimes - especially in boss battles - or that the physics of the terrain just don't add up at all, there is just so much scope for adventure in this lovely world. I am even enjoying the plot and characters.

I've been regularly bitching and whining about the quality of JRPG's these last few years, so thank f**k for this.

Why does the combat fall apart? Anything to watch out for?

On the whole it's fine but on a few occasions the AI has just totally spazzed out, particularly when there are a lot of enemies. On a few occasions I have completely lost control of Shulk as the games pathfinding tried to process what was happening. It led to a total wipe in one boss battle but the game is so lovely and forgiving for death that it didn't detract too much.

You need to hold ZR and push either UP, RIGHT or DOWN to order your team to either attack a specific targeted enemy, attack randomly or stop attacking and come to your side. Normally they just attack randomly I've found unless I order them.

It was the character I was controlling that spazzed though! Npc AI has been fine.
