I'm not much good at these first play type posts but since no one else has started one I thought I'd give it a shot.
So, what is Catherine all about? Well, going from the promotion videos you'd expect it to be a full on sex romp. Far from it to tell the truth. Sure, there are a few provocative scenes but nothing that would turn your face red. No breast, no bush, err, no nudity at all. It's all suggestive. Now, that may put a lot of people off but why should it? You buy a game to play, not to pleasure yourself, right?
The story goes (without giving too much away) that you play the role of 32 year old Vincent. A guy who has been dating Katherine for 5 years. The relationship seems to be going nowhere and when pressed about the question of marriage he always folds. Katherine also announces that she is pregnant in order to get an answer out of Vincent but again it's no go. Vincent soon comes in contact with the much younger Catherine. Note the similarities in the name? Catherine's age is never told but I'd say she is around 20 since Vincent refers to her as "that kid".
Things start to become tricky for Vincent now since he has effectively had an affair with this 20 year old Catherine which in turn starts his nightmares. It's these nightmares in which you play.
Each nightmare is set in an ever climbing set of block stairs. The rout to the top is never clear so Vincent must pull, push and remove blocks in order to make a path for himself. Sounds dull doesn't it? Actually, it's extremely addictive and quiet challenging. At first I didn't think I would enjoy the puzzle elements of this game but I was wrong. Every night I've played since getting it up until I completed the game. It was no easy task even on Easy mode but extremely satisfying once you've figured out the correct rout to take.
As well as the puzzle nightmare sections, Vincent meets up with his pals every night at the Izakaiya, sort of a snack bar type place. n these sections Vincent can talk to other people in the bar as well as receive and send mails from his phone. These section may seem pointless to anyone who can't understand Japanese but I can assure you that these are some of the best parts of the game. In these sections the story is driven very well. So well in fact you will force yourself to play through the nightmare section just to see what will happen next.
The bottom line is that Catherine is a very addictive action puzzle platformer which will appeal to a wide audience. The lack of not understanding Japanese is going to take away an awful lot of the experience IMO but with everything looking so lavish you may not care.
A truly recommended game and one that I am very happy I took a chance with. Just don't expect it to be a walk in the park.

By the way, I've found two 100% bugs in the game on the last few stages. I'll upload them to YouTube. Seems that the japanese game testers couldn't reach the end since both bugs are very easy to create.
