    Warriors: Legends Of Troy (PS3/360)

I heard about this game last year, and being a big fan of greek mythology and the Dyansty Warriors series I really fancied it. I had forgotten all about it but was wandering round my local game shop and spotted it there on the shelf for PS3. It's very rare I buy a game on the spot without reading any reviews but I decided to take a risk.
This game is developed by Koei Canada to appeal to a more western audience than the DW or SW games. The change in development teams is very apparent as soon as you get into the gameplay. I mean this in a good way. DW had become a bit stagnant to me by nr 6.
Gameplay wise its pretty standard DW style hack n slash with tons of enemies to fight through. You can execute finishing moves and also unleash a Musu style blitz attack once charged up. This has the effect of spraying blood all over the screen. Speaking of blood, this is a lot more violent than the other games in the series.
As you can guess from the title it's all about the Trojan war. You play set missions chronologically alternating between playing as the Greek heroes like Achilles and Ajax to Trojans like Hector and Paris.
The first mission is Achilles beach landing and initial skirmish with the Trojans. As soon as it kicks off you realise how much inspiration the makers have taken from the film Troy. Achilles killer move is the same leaping thrust into the neck that Brad Pitt uses in the film.
The second thing that strikes is how good the visuals are. The cut scenes are suitably epic and the gameplay visuals are finally the next gen DW style I have been waiting for. The fog in the distance is gone but still with the huge number of enemies on screen. It's all really impressive. Even better is when the arrow storm comes down peppering the ground with arrows, 300 style.

All in all if you are into DW or SW then don't think twice, just get this.
9 out of 10 for me

Was thinking about it, but given Dynasty Warriors 7 is out in a couple of weeks anyway it didn't seem like a wise purchase.

Sounds good Dave, any online co-op or just SP? , also what modes are available?

Depends on personal taste. I love Greek mythology so the Troy theme in this game really appealed a lot more than another DW scenario.
I can see this dropping in price very quickly. I only paid £30 for it so I can see it sub £20 soon. Shame it's totally off the radar and didn't even crack the top 40 on release

Hi MB, no multiplayer unfortunately. Shame as it really would have been good. Mode wise it's pretty linnear single player campaign wit option to replay past missions to increase on high score.
I know you like the Musou games so if you see this cheap snap it up.

I really like the film influences from Troy and 300. Surprised it's not higher profile as they were popular films which needed a decent game made from them

Bump for this. More people need to buy this game. I am embaressed I live in a country where Michael Jackson: The Experience cracks the top 40 but an epic hack n slash languishes destined for the bargain bins

Played some more missions and the combat mechanics are superb. You can pick up swords and spears from downed enemies and throw them at opponents. If you manage to time a spear throw right you can kill an enemy commander instantly.
The boss fights are great too. When you come across one the troops stop fighting and form a circle to watch the fight. They act as the boundary for the fight until the fight is over then resume fighting

Dave hack n slash has never been big here, for most people it's a dirty guilty secret that they enjoy, but wont buy it new maybe 10 to 20 they might.

Yeah I know what you mean Alan. I still fire up my PS2 for some Shadow Of Rome. You can't beat a bit of sword on skull!

Having played Dynasty Warriors 7 now, this one would have to be pretty special indeed to make me get it as well as that...

If it wasn't for DW7 and Gundam Warriors 3 around the corner i would have given this a good go.

Bought this based on my love of ancient Greece, mythology etc. and davek22's enthusiastic impressions. Absolutely loving it. Never really tried Dynasty Warriors type games before, apart from a couple of quick goes on number 2, so ploughing through hordes of enemies is feeling great at the mo. Could someone in the know recommend whether I should try warriors orochi, samurai warriors or dynasty warriors after I've finished with this. I've spent my monthly budget for games for this month, so DW7 will have to wait until it comes down in price.

I'd recommend Sengoku Basara 3, or Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes as it's called in the west. Personally I love these type of games and SB3 is my favourite of them all. It's really cheap as well .

Sengoku Basara 3 is 7.22 on amazon as stated by rmoxon on another thread.
If you want a good single player that's not Sengoku Basara 3 , get warriors orchi. If you enjoy playing online with others in multi get dynasty warriors strikeforce.

The Orochi games are awesome, but I do wonder if they lose a little if you've not played the Samurai and Dynasty Warriors games as you won't recognise any of the cast.

I would go with Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce as a starter. Some good bargains to be had on the older DW games
