I've been at this so much I've barely stopped to do anything else. Its fantastic, I absolutely love it to bits. 57 missions through Challenge Tower, finished up to the end of MK2 in story and grabbed a fair few of the endings in ladder mode. The game has so much content other developers need to take note (I'm looking at you Capcom!!) the fighting system is a nice blend of more 'core' fighters and traditional MK but with plenty of polish which just makes the game so much fun.

The gripes I have is that whilst I've not played too much online (thanks PSN...) But it did seem like a laggy mess which seemed to me to be pretty much unplayable even on my 100MB line, but I have faith they'll produce a fix ala Tekken 6 of recent memory and it really will be the Komplete (yeah, I couldnt help it ) package.

      Just started playing mine(360).

I'm on Kintaro at the moment. Looks like something out of Thundercats!

Stages are lovely. I especially like the forest and the one with Goro in the background.

It's a bit slower than SSF4 but I'll get into the rhythm soon enough. Loving it so far, but I don't appreciate the fatalities being locked. It's getting boring doing the exact same one every single time.

Your line speed would be largely irrelevant playing this online as you'd be at the mercy of the other player's upload speed.

been playing this a lot since thursday morning on ps3 , really good solid fighter and some of those xray moves really are cringe worthy, not so much visually but the amazing sounds(stryker)when yor bludgeoned over the head with a flashlight then spanked round the jaw with a truncheon.
trying to learn scorpion at the moment.........seems like a pretty good all rounder.

            Fatalities aren't locked.

You can pull them off if you know the command.

Same goes for the stage fatalities you can otherwise unlock in the Tower.

Does this have plenty of content in single player then?

I want to get this becuase I really enjoyed the demo but I'm rubbish at beat em ups so its pointless me playing them online.

I was sort of hoping that'd be the case. Cheers!

                Time for GameFAQs!

Loving it so far. It's confusing me quite a bit though. So far two really confusing things:

                1) It flips the movements in the move list depending on what side you're on. I do not like being punished for pausing mid-game to check the move list without first making a mental note of which side I'm on. I realise it's a game with a character called Noob, but wtf!

                2) Liu Kang's flying kick is back, forward... PUNCH? Seriously? Why would they do that?

That's it. Can't fault anything else, yet. Also the sound effects are incredible, especially Shao Kahn's hammer sounds which are quite a bit like one of the effects in the Transformers films.

has a pretty decent story mode ...lots of unlockables a challenge tower mode (Got to say i really miss unlockables in games now)

the game play is a hell of a lot more refined then what i am used to in previous mortal kombat games i always felt the timing for combos and moves were very strict previously.....here there still strict compared to say marvel vs capcom 3 but i am getting the hang of timings but the fact you can chain special moves onto chain combos makes a huge difference to the game play for me

Shao khan is a bit annoying isnt he, I hate his projectile stun hammer throw he does. He is pretty easy to beat on normal though as you can just move and hit him when he is cussing you, which he seems to do a lot :P

my only complaint so far is a bit in the story mode where it changes which character you play....would be handy to have a little training/practice session before the main fight just to get used to the character rather then having to quit story and go to the training mode

What I hate are those 2 vs 1's. They aren't fun. Why no 2 vs 2's, in terms of story it would be legit to do so. Gotta say that the difficulty does scale after so many losses, the CPU will ultimately just be a sitting duck.

Shao and the Shokans can luckily be cheesed. You can basically uppercut -> jump over them -> let them get up and uppercut again, repeat.

1 is good imo, just do what is being shown on screen and don't think about sides.

2 is indeed a bit stupid. Sub Zero's Ice ball comes out via LK. Which makes no damned sense at all.

It drives me barmy. It feels like I'm having to learn two moves. Of course, it's always been like that from the dawn of time with any 2D-planar fighting game involving directions and I imagine 99% of people who aren't familiar with fighters may well get even more confused when the move list shows everything when facing right, but something about it just creeps me out. Once I've learned the moves it'll be fine and, being MK, the moves are pretty similar to the old games anyway.

As for the funky buttons, I have a feeling the specials just ignore what limb you use and go for ease of execution/logical sense from a button layout point of view. For example, Liu Kang's standing fireball is FP and crouching fireball is FK. With the default layout, FP is above FK whereas in the old games the button layout had HP above LP so, if you think about it, pressing the higher button to do a standing fireball and the lower button to do a crouching fireball sort of makes sense, regardless of the fact that one is a punch and the other is a kick.

Finished the story mode earlier, bloody loved it. Do love the lore in Mortal Kombat, has got me itching to watch the original movie again.

Also the Challenge Tower is pure class. Some of them are just hilarious.

First most of all this game is great fun I always enjoyed MK and MK II but felt some of the others after I played in the past were less stable. MK9 is great and the best one so far. Lots of nostalgic stuff too "Toasty! bloke popping up" for example.Loving this more and more, played a bit of the Story Mode yesterday was nice as it has all the MK stories played for you to play through and some old style costumes on characters. The fighting is very solid and easy to pick up. Even for people who don't normally play fighting games it would be easy to play. I think it seems to have a deep layer behind it also for those wishing to spend more time to learn it. The fatalities are alot easier than in the past (more time given) which is fab, and some are extremly violent giving GoW III and Dead Space 2 a run for their money. Each character starts with one and you have to unlock the others. A nice selection of characters that feel pretty retro, fun to try old characters I loved like Scorpion or Sindel. Lots of items and things to unlock in the Krypt, so like Soul Calibur it can be fun to know there is a reason to fight to earn cash. Played the Tag Team mode a bitthat works well and is fun to make some odd teams as MK has a great selection of charcters. The backgrounds are awesome with lots happening, and as already said by others the amount of things to do in MK puts Capacom and MVC3 to shame. Every fighter should have this many extras e.g. Tag, Story, Test your might, Strength, Sight Challenge Tower just to name a few.

My only complaint so far is the sound balance. The game in general sound wise is so low even if you max it out in the options. I guess the only way around this is big speakers. Might be something to do with the 3D and 3D stereo options? Gonna try head phones later. Maybe they can patch it to make it louder. This seems to install as you play which is good in someways, but a full install option would have been welcome. Not tried online yet as PSN is up or down not sure.
