Interesting you should say that about slowing down. My favourite Sonic levels to play (not musically or visually) were the frst two Emerald ones of Sonic 2.

    Why?

The sedate pace, and the fact you could go back on yourself in the level. I explored every nook and cranny, and found every ring. Then I perfected speed runs on these two levels - plotting a route to collect every single ring in as short a time as possible.

Some of the other levels and other games, you just couldn't do this. Everything was speed, speed, speed, sending you to places you couldn't return to. It irritated me, even though speed and forward progress was the whole point of the series. I just wanted a calmer pace at times, with exploration of these beautiful levels.

I've just had my first play of the demo and it's not actually bad. I think it's the closest they have got to the original Sonic games. There are some minor niggles, jumping feels slightly heavier and the framerate could be better but I feel it plays better than Sonic 4 Ep1.

I like the art style and animation, the music is almost identical to the original and it is certainly fast. I don't really have any issues with the camera positioning and the shift in perspective works ok. This could be really good but we have been here before so only time will tell.
