    Fighting Fantasy ( PSP Mini & PS3 )

Remember the 80's, large shoulder pads and naff haircuts, and that was the guys, enough of the terrible fashion and TV. Also back then came the gamebook by Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone. So you read some chapters and made a few choices a see what happen RPG old school 101. So now its back exclusively on PSN. So laughing jackel are in charge of getting this to us. The book in question is Talisman of Death , book 11 of the 59 released..So you start off telling you you've been sucked into the world of Orb. Theres 2 play styles , dice rolling for all us D&D beardies and a mini game where you have to find a symbol, you can set up which you like in the options. So the graphics are pretty basic but feature good art from the books in the glossary of people you meet and places. Theres fantastic music usually which sets the scenes your playing, The writing was always great in the books so no worries there. So this is old school RPG ,mostly using your imagination and the colourful writing that makes you feel the situations. I dont think this is a game for everybody , but if your looking for something different after shooting loads of people in COD or BF then this may suit your inner nerd. Lets hope they bring out a few more gamebooks , Fighting Fantasy is ?3.19 on PSN.

What what what?! Mr Bubbles, from what you' re saying this is an attempt to recreate the old Steve Jackson/Ian Livingstone Fighting fantasy adventure novels of years past?! In fact that's exactly what you've said. Can't believe it.

I've been contemplating buying this for a few days.

          Eurogamer gave it 6/10.

The enduring legacy of Qix returns - and this time it's cube-shaped, as Laughing Jackal's triumphant Cubixx HD invites PS3 owners to wield our lasers with preju

Further thoughts on the game MrB would be appreciated.

Is it like a digital version of the actual game book, like the iOS games (they have a bunch of them) or a new game just based on that game book? I love the fighting fantasies. Still have Warlock of Firetop Mountain by my bed actually. Just to remind myself that I used to be able to read.

Cool. I still haven't loaded up my PSP since the whole PSN outage but I might give this a go. The iOS versions are pretty good - just the same as the books but they work well and are really handy.

If any of you do purchase it , turn on the dice in the options , as the default is the mini game i explained and eurogamer review talks about.

Well I never played D&D or read any text adventures, so I'm guessing I'm not a geek.

However, I do fancy playing a digi version, and its hardly a bank breaking price.

Having watched a preview video, it's certainly piqued my interest.

                      Time to get nerdy!

House of Hell was the best one. Still have my battered copy somewhere. Hard as well.

House of Hell is ridiculously hard. Really good though. If I remember correctly, that was a Steve Jackson one and one thing he did was give you numbers at certain points that you'd need later - so it was really hard to cheat. Ian Livingstone's ones always just asked - did you get the magic emerald ring? And I'd pick, well of course I did! Jackson's were mostly cheat-free.
